Information for use
sera marin stream pump SPM 8000
Please read these instructions carefully and keep for future use. When forwarding this unit to third parties, this
information for use is also to be handed over.
The sera marin stream pump SPM 8000 is designed for
use in aquariums whose inhabitants are exposed to per-
manent currents in their natural biotopes. Many marine in-
habitants have optimally adapted to these conditions.
Sessile animals are supplied with nutrients only by water
currents. Insufficient currents may affect sufficient nutrient
supply of these animals. The currents generated by normal
filter pumps are often not sufficient for marine aquariums.
It is therefore advisable to install one or several additional
sera marin stream pumps SPM 8000.
SAFETY PRECAUTION
All electrical units must be disconnected from the mains/
power supply before conducting work at the sera marin
stream pump SPM 8000 or the aquarium.
Application and application range
The sera marin stream pump SPM 8000 can be used in
aquariums between approx. 100 l (25 US gal.) up to 500 l
(132 US gal.). Several pumps may be used in larger tanks.
Due to the large intake openings, the sera marin stream
pump SPM 8000 should not be used in tanks with fish fry
or very small fish. The clamping lever suction cup allows
attaching the sera marin stream pump SPM 8000 to the
aquarium glass almost everywhere.
Kit includes
sera marin stream pump SPM 8000
Clamping lever suction cup with ball joint holder

1.2 Rotor, ceramic shaft with rubber bearings
1.3 Outlet nozzle
1.4 Back part with cast-in holder screw
1.5 Clamping lever suction cup with ball joint holder
Assembly instruction (2 – 7)
Attachment with the clamping lever suction cup
The included clamping lever suction cup allows particular-
ly strong fixation at the aquarium glass which cannot be
achieved with ordinary standing feet. Thoroughly remove
algae and dirt from the desired location for positioning the
clamping lever suction cup.
Screw the flow pump into the ball joint holder of the clamp-
ing lever suction cup (2).
Take the sera marin stream pump SPM 8000, fold the
clamping lever upwards and pull it out of the suction cup
casing (3). Position the sera marin stream pump SPM
8000 in the desired location (4). Press the rubber of the
clamping lever suction cup against the glass while the
clamping lever is still up (5). Then move the clamping lever
(6). You will need to repeat the process in case the clamp-
ing lever can be moved without resistance. Check whether
the clamping lever suction cup is firmly attached to the
aquarium glass. No invertebrates should be located direct-
ly in front of the nozzle of the sera marin stream pump
SPM 8000 (7).
Operation
Plug the mains plug into the main socket after the pump
has been installed. The sera marin stream pump SPM
8000 begins to run immediately. Watch the sera marin
stream pump SPM 8000 for a while as to see whether in-
vertebrates are being exposed to currents too strong, or if
they even are about to being torn off. Immediately pull the
mains plug in this case and switch off the sera marin
stream pump SPM 8000 by doing so. Re-adjust the outlet
direction of the sera marin stream pump SPM 8000 (2). If
applicable, move invertebrates which are exposed to very
strong currents.
Due to the strong currents, especially directly in front of the
nozzle, the water level may rise in case of being directed
against the aquarium glass. The water level should be low-
ered before starting the pump, and slowly be topped up
again when the sera marin stream pump SPM 8000 is
running.
Cleaning
Take the sera marin stream pump SPM 8000 out of
the aquarium for cleaning and clean it under running water
with a dishwashing brush or a sponge. Do not use any
detergents. Place the pump in a descaler solution if the
casing is lime encrusted. Please adhere to the information
for use of the descaler solution. Rinse off the descaler so-
lution very carefully. Then remove partially dissolved
lime remainders under running water using a brush or a
sponge.
Pull the current nozzle (1.3) off the motor part (1.1) for re-
moving parts drawn into the pump, and clean both parts.
Be sure to locate the shaft properly in its bearings when re-
assembling the unit.
