h) Some hand and power tool blades feature a complex geometry. If such a blade is
suitable for sharpening, it may ONLY be restored to its original geometry. NEVER alter the
existing blade features. If you are unsure how to achieve this, have the tool sharpened by
the manufacturer or a trained technician
i)
Metalworking machines are potentially dangerous if not used properly. ALWAYS
adhere to commonly recognised rules and procedures concerning the operation of
metalwork machines and the use of hand tools
j)
Always use the CORRECT accessories for sharpening specific tools. Never alter
accessories or jigs. Never use self-built accessories or modify the machine. This
device may be unsuitable if the accessories designed for specific sharpening tasks are
unavailable. DO NOT sharpen tools 'free-hand'
k) Inspect the machine, its discs, wheels and accessories carefully before EVERY
use. The use of damaged abrasive wheels is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and might cause
SERIOUS injury to the operator and people in the vicinity
l)
Abrasive wheels must be well maintained and have an EVEN grinding surface.
Recondition with a stone grader or truing tool when surface shows uneven wear
m) Ensure your power circuits satisfy the earthing requirements of this machine. Never
connect to electrical circuits without protective earth, or to unprotected electrical outlet
with no circuit breaker or fuses. Consult a qualified electrician if at all unsure about how
to safely connect this machine. Incorrect or damaged electrical connections can be the
cause of electric shocks, fires and damage to the machine

Intended Use

Device for low-speed, wet sharpening and honing of a variety of tools and blades using
tool-specific jigs (optional).
IMPORTANT: This device is not designed for reshaping, repairing, or recovering overly-
damaged blades. This device is used for sharpening purposes only.

Unpacking Your Tool

Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Familiarise yourself with all its features and
functions
Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing
or damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use this tool

Before Use

Fitting the Grindstone and Water Trough
1. Place the Metal Washer (7) onto the spindle, profile facing away from the body of the
machine
2. Place the Grindstone (6) loosely onto the spindle, with the depressed centre of the
GB
grindstone facing away from the body of the machine (as shown in image)
3. Clip the Water Trough (5) into position. Use the appropriate fixing position to suit the size
of grindstone to ensure stone is free to rotate yet reaches below the max water level (as
marked on trough)
4. Place the other Metal Washer (7) onto the spindle, profile facing the grindstone
5. Fasten with the Locking Nut (8). Use the Spanner (16) to secure tightly
Note: This spindle has a reverse thread, turn nut anti-clockwise to fasten.
6. Rotate the grindstone by hand a few turns to ensure that it moves freely and accurately
6
Leather Honing Wheel
1. The unit is supplied with the Leather Honing Wheel (1) fitted
2. Before use, check that the honing wheel is securely fastened in place
3. Turn the Locking Knob (3) clockwise to tighten
Note: Tighten by hand only.
Note: A Profiled Leather Honing Wheel is also available to purchase as an optional accessory.
See 'Profiled Leather Honing Wheel' for more information.
Positioning the unit
Install the unit on a solid work surface, with all four feet securely planted on the surface
Note: This machine features four rubber feet to decrease vibration. Place it on a work surface
that does not encourage or amplify tool vibration.
Ensure there is adequate light to see the work clearly and sufficient space around the unit
so that there are no obstructions
Filling the Water Trough
1. Fill the Water Trough (5) with clean cold water up to the 'MAX WATER LEVEL' mark on the
side of the water trough
2. When in use, ensure the water level is always sufficient to keep the grinding surface of the
Grindstone (6) wet
Engaging the drive system
1. Tighten the Torque Adjustment Knob (10) by turning it clockwise until the wheel
begins to drive
2. If additional torque is needed, turn the knob a little more to increase pressure on
the drive wheel
3. After use, always loosen the torque adjustment knob
Using the Stone Grader
Use the Stone Grader (14) to dress the surface of the grindstone for fine or coarse grinding:
For coarse grinding, to remove a large amount of material quickly (for example, to shape
a blade):
Apply the coarse side of the stone grader to the grindstone to roughen the grinding
surface
For fine grinding, to sharpen the blade:
Apply the smooth side of the stone grader to the grindstone to provide a finer surface,
ideal for sharpening the blade in preparation final polishing of the cutting edge on the
leather honing wheel
Using the Straight Edge Jig
For use with the Support Arm (11) and Grinding Angle Set-Up Jig (17) to set the blade at
exactly the correct angle for sharpening
1. Loosen the knobs on the Straight Edge Jig (13)
2. Place the blade in the jig so that one edge of the blade is positioned against the end stops
(Image A)
3. Tighten the knobs to fasten the blade in position
Using the Support Arm
The Support Arm (11) can be attached for grinding with or against the direction of rotation
of the grindstone
For grinding against the direction of rotation:
1. Place the Support Arm (11) in the Vertical Mounts (2) (Image B)
For grinding and honing with the direction of rotation:
1. Place the Support Arm (11) in the Horizontal Mounts (9) (Image C)
WARNING: Honing must ONLY be carried out WITH the direction of rotation.
Working against the direction of rotation removes larger amounts of material more quickly
than working with the direction of rotation
Working with the direction of rotation can be used for very precise sharpening of a blade
for finer tools and is used for honing
Take your time and practise the set up with various types and sizes of blades so that you
can achieve the correct sharpening angle and ensure the blade to be sharpened is square
across the surface of the grindstone
In general, for sharpening, position the support arm in the vertical mounts and sharpen
against the direction of rotation
NEVER place the support arm in the vertical mounts when using the leather honing wheel.
Attempting to hone the blade against the direction of rotation will cause severe damage to
the honing wheel
