4 - MAINTENANCE
Before, during and after a dive, a visual examination helps identify equipment problems before
dangerous situations occur, preventing diving accidents.
All equipment must be regularly inspected by a certified diving equipment repair shop.
4.1 Maintenance after each dive
Î Rinse your BC carefully with clean water. Pay particular attention to the purges and the
inflator.
Î Then, drain any water contained in the BC by activating the lower purge knob.
Î Dry your buoyancy compensator on a wide hanger away from direct sunlight.
Don't store water in the inflatable bladder of the BC. Repeated use of the oral inflation
valve or relief valve can admit water into the BC, which reduces the buoyancy provided
by the buoyancy compensator. This can lead to serious injury or death. Remove all the
water from the BC before each use via the lower purge.
ATTENTION: Don't let sand or other foreign matter enter the inflation mouthpiece or
valve button. Under certain conditions, foreign bodies could prevent the valve from
closing completely. If this happens during a dive, shake the valve while pressing it
several times. If the valve is leaking or still does not work, stop diving. Diving with a
leaking compensator or valves that don't function properly may lead to loss of buoyancy
which could result in injury or death.
4.2 Biennial maintenance and preparation for winter
Your buoyancy compensator must be inspected and serviced by a licensed centre at least once
every two (2) years, and more often if you dive frequently. Any damage due to lack of proper
maintenance of the BC is not covered by the warranty.
Î Inspect your buoyancy compensator yourself every year, looking for signs of wear and tear.
Î Inflate (by mouth) the inflatable chamber, wait 12h and check it has not deflated. If in doubt,
contact your approved dealer.
Î Every 2 years, have a comprehensive review carried out by an authorised TRIBORD
service centre.
TRIBORD (Decathlon SA) cancels all warranties if the user disassembles or maintains
his or her own inflator or one of the BC's purges.
ATTENTION: DO NOT DIVE with a buoyancy compensator that has not passed all
the checks and tests before, during or after a dive. Loss of buoyancy control or loss of
integrity of air retention could occur and cause serious injury or death.
WARNING: Following heavy use, BCs used for hire/in dive centres, for professional or
other intensive uses should be checked at least every 6 months. The general condition
and principal safety parts such as the bladder, valves, bends, corrugated hose and
inflator must be inspected. If any of the parts above shows signs of wear or reduced
performance, it must be immediately replaced or taken out of use if replacement
is not possible. The Direct System flexible hose is an integral part of the buoyancy
compensator.
