4.4.3 Adjusting cutting depth according to the
depth scale
Mount the router bit to be used and put the
machine on the workpiece.
Unlock and plunge the machine down until the
tip of the router bit just touches the workpiece
and lock the machine in this position.
Adjust the depth stop 19 to touch the stop
screw.
Move the indicator 18 on the depth stop so that
its upper edge is on the same level with the zero
marking of the depth scale 46.
Now set the depth stop to the cutting depth desi-
red and tighten it with wing screw 68.
Unlock the machine again by loosening the right
handle so that the machine will move upwards
to the clearance limit set.
4.4.4 Micro adjustment of the cutting depth
Turning the setting nut 66 adjusts the cutting depth
with minute precision. One complete turn corres-
ponds to 1 mm (3/64 in.) cutting depth.
4.5 Operating instructions
4.5.1 Plunging the router for cutting
A reduction plate has been fitted to the bottom of the
base plate which reduces the diameter of the ope-
ning for the tool to 40 mm / 15/8 in. This reduction
plate can be removed if required. It facilitates wor-
king edges of timber and reduces the risque of slip-
ping off.
When milling, please assure that the workpiece is
secured and the upper milling cutter is applied as
even and extensively as possible to the base plate
51 and / or the dead stops. Large depths should be
milled progressively.
After setting the milling speed, secure the machine
with both hands and switch it on. Immerse into the
workpiece at a consistent feed rate until you reach
the dead stops and then arrest the machine. Only
upcut milling is permissible.
4.5.2 Cutting with parallel guide fence (see ill. 3)
A parallel guide fence is provided to make cuts
which should be exactly parallel to a straight edge of
the workpiece.
Mounting the parallel guide fence:
Insert the guide bars 73 from the back into the
v-shaped openings of the base plate.
Move the parallel guide fence to the approxi-
mate distance required and lock it by tightening
the wing screws 68a.
Adjust the correct distance to the router bit by
turning the knurled-head screw 71 and tighten
wing screws 68b.
4.5.3 Cutting along a template (see ill. 2)
With the template guide – supplied as standard
accessory – it is possible to copy the shape of a tem-
plate to the workpiece. When the reduction plate has
been removed, the template guide is mounted – col-
lar downwards – to the bottom side of the base plate
with two flat-head screws 70. The template must be
sufficiently large to provide a safe support for the
router and must be thicker than the collar length of
the template guide.

Before doing any work on the
machine pull out the mains plug from
the socket!
The router LO 50 E is designed with a low
maintenance requirement. The ball bea-
rings are greased for life.
The machine must be regularly cleaned of dust, at
the same time blowing out the motor ventilation
apertures.
The router bits used on the machine must be freed
from resin regularly as clean tools improve the cut-
ting quality. This can be done by soaking the router
bits for 24 hours in paraffin, white spirit or commer-
cially available resin remover.
After a prolonged period of operation, users are
recommended to have the machine checked by an
authorized MAFELL customer service agency.
5.1 Storage
If the machine is out of service for a lengthy period of
time, it should be thoroughly cleaned (see chapter 5).
Spray bright metal panels with a rustproofing agent.
Store the machine only in dry rooms, where it is pro-
tected against weathering.
