The ORITEL MOD 100 pin diode modulator is one of the microwave components specially designed
for the ORITEL BDH R100 educational bench, manufactured using a rectangular waveguide in accordance
with the R100/WR90 standard (covering the frequency range between 8.5 and 9.6 GHz).
It enables the microwave signal coming from the ORITEL OSG 100 Gunn-effect oscillator to be modulated.
A pin diode fitted in parallel in a waveguide section behaves like a variable resistor which has come to
maladjust the transmission in the waveguide.
The current provided by the ORITEL CF 204A power supply unit enables the equivalent resistance of
the pin diode to be varied, and a part of the energy proportional to the value of the resistance is reflected
to the oscillator, causing an attenuation of the microwave signal, hence a modulation.

The pin diode modulator is necessary for several of the manipulations described in the BDH R100
educational bench operating manual.
The pin diode modulator must necessarily be preceded by a ferrite isolator in order for you to
avoid interfering with the operating of the Gunn diode oscillator.
Generally speaking, the components below are a part of the standard supplies delivered with the ORITEL
BDH R100 basic educational bench. To use these components, refer to their respective operating manuals.
