Before starting the engine always check:
the oil levels inside the engine (fig. 5, ref. A) and the gearbox; the level check cap is on the
upper cover (fig. 6); the oil level must be between the two notches.
that all screws and nuts are well tightened especially those fastening the attachments to the
machine.
that all levers are in neutral.
that the air filter (dry version) is clean (fig. 7). Caution! Never blow the cartridge with
compressed air; if clogged it must be replaced.
that the air filter (in oil bath version) is clean and its oil at the right level (fig. 7A).
check the oil level inside the tiller gearbox (fig. 4 no. 3)
fill the tank with fuel, using a funnel with very fine filter.
VERSIONS WITH ELECTRIC STARTER: do not hold the starter turned for more than 8
seconds each time, otherwise the starter will overheat and could be damaged.
STARTING THE PETROL ENGINE
Turn on the petrol cock, push the throttle lever to the midway position (fig. 3A, no. 14) and, if the
engine is cold, engage the choke on the carburettor. Start the engine by pulling hard on the pull
starter handle (fig. 4, no. 6).
STARTING THE DIESEL ENGINE (electric starter)
Push the throttle lever to the midway position (fig. 3A, no. 14) and turn the key clockwise (fig. 4A,
no. 30).
STARTING THE MACHINE
Set the gearbox lever in the desired position. If the gear does not engage immediately, give a few
light touches on the clutch. The machine moves pressing the grey safety device (fig. 3A, no. 25)
and the red clutch lever (fig. 3A, no. 1). By releasing the red lever, the machine will stop but the
engine will keep running and the lever returns back to its vertical position.
PETROL ENGINE SWITCH OFF
Place the throttle lever into STOP position (fig. 3A, no. 21).
DIESEL ENGINE SWITCH OFF
Press and hold the button until the diesel engine is off (fig. 4A, no. 33) and then bring the starting
key back into the O position (fig. 4A, no. 30).
CAUTION:
- to avoid problems to the clutch during the functioning of the machine, please keep the red
lever firmly depressed. Attention. Do not use the machine whilst only partially depressing
the red lever or damage to the clutch may result.
- when using the machine into the walking tractor version, the safety device (fig. 4, no. 7)
automatically disengages the PTO if the reverse gear is engaged.
STARTING WORK
Connect the P.T.O., moving the clutch lever slightly if it does not engage at once. Increase speed
as appropriate and press the clutch lever to start work.
END OF WORK
Switch off the engine, put the gear lever in neutral position, disengage the PTO lever and place the
lever (fig. 3A, no. 2). in forward gear. If the machine is on a slope, engage the brakes (fig. 3A, no.
26-27) and block them using the appropriate safety device (fig. 3A, no. 34).
