1. Description
1.1 Purpose
The pressure reducers are for administering medical oxygen at reduced pressure for various
devices from the medical and therapy fields and for administering oxygen to the patient via
a system (e.g. nasal cannula, oxygen mask, humidifier). The pressure reducers are intended
for connection to high-pressure oxygen cylinders (up to 20,000 kPa = 200 bar cylinder pres-
sure).
The pressure reducers are not intended to drive surgical tools.
1.2 User qualification
Patients must be instructed in the use of the device by qualified personnel before therapy
begins.
1.3 Function
During use, the oxygen from the cylinder passes through the cylinder valve and connecting
union 2 into the body 3 of the pressure reducer. The cylinder pressure (inlet pressure) can
be read on the contents gage 1.
A filter screw with an integrated sintered filter removes any impurities. Another sintered
filter reduces the flow of oxgen. The filter screw 11 is located in the opening of connecting
union 2. The second sintered filter is installed between connecting union 2 and body 3.
In the reduction stage, cylinder pressure is reduced to the operating pressure (outlet pres-
sure) required in each case of between 0.5 and max. 5.5 bar, depending on type . The prin-
ciple used here, with crater-type bore and spring-loaded piston, ensures particularly
constant pressure, despite variations in flow.
All pressure reducers are protected against excessive pressure by a safety valve 10.
The following pressure reducers are described in these operating instructions:
