3.2

Function

The BML is a magnetically coded, non-contact, absolute
position measuring system consisting of a sensor head
and magnetic tape. The sensor head and magnetic tape
are mounted on the machine.
There are two magnetic tracks on the magnetic tape: one
with alternating north and south poles and one with the
coding of the absolute position.
The sensors in the sensor head measure the magnetic
alternating field. Moving without any contact over the
magnetic tape, they sense the magnetic poles and transfer
the travel information to the controller. The controller can
thus determine the absolute position and travel range.
The BML offers various interfaces:
– SSI (absolute)
– BiSS C (absolute, also allows customer data to be
stored in the sensor head)
– Absolute quadrature interface (absolute, compatible
with digital incremental A/B/Z interface)
– Additional analog incremental real-time signal (sin/cos)
– Additional digital, incremental real-time signal
– Additional safety analog real-time signal (sin/cos)

The multi-color LED is located in the front on the side
opposite the plug (see Fig. 3-1).
