Locking systems

Before starting work, always verify that the locking devices on the PTO and/or PIC have been
tightened properly. To ensure that the locking devices are e cient, it is necessary for the PTOs to
be wear-free (for example, no deformations of the locking groove or excessively warned out teeth).
In systems requiring that bolts be tightened, always use original components provided by the
manufacturer and replace them at the end of their lifespan. Should a bolt get stuck in the hub during
unlocking operations, use a copper hammer to remove it by hitting the screw head while being
careful not to damage its thread. Reassemble all the components in their right place so as not to
misplace any of them.
18.
Push-pin locking system. Push in the push-pin and insert the hub of the yoke on the power
take-o so that the pushbutton clicks into the groove. Make sure the push-pin returns to its original
position after xing it to the power take-o .
19.
Ball-type collar locking system. Insert the hub of the yoke on the power take-o , pull the quick
coupling in to release the balls and, at the same time, push the PTO drive shaft on the power take-o ,
releasing the collar until the coupling clicks on the groove.
20.
Interfering bolt locking system. Remove the bolt from the yoke hub, insert the hub on the power
take-o , re-insert the bolt at the groove of the power take-o , position the washer, tighten the bolt
and verify the locking of the PTO drive shaft. Recommended tightening torques: M12 = 95 Nm (70
Ft.lbs); M14 = 145 Nm (107 Ft.lbs); M16 = 210 Nm (154 Ft.lbs).
21.
Non-interfering bolt locking system. Remove the bolt from the yoke hub, insert the hub on the
power take-o , coupling the entire splined section of yoke; make sure that the power take-o does
not come out of the inner side of the yoke; position the washer, insert the bolt and tighten it, verifying
the locking of the PTO drive shaft. Recommended tightening torques: M12 = 95 Nm (70 Ft.lbs);
M14 = 145 Nm (107 Ft.lbs); M16 = 210 Nm (154 Ft.lbs).
22.
Clamp bridge locking system. Remove the bolts, insert the yoke hub on the power take-o ,
position the holes of the hub and of the bridge terminals at the groove of the power take-o and
insert the bolts; position the washers, tighten the bolts and verify the locking of the PTO drive shaft.
Recommended tightening torques: M12 = 95 Nm (70 Ft.lbs); M14 = 145 Nm (107 Ft.lbs); M16 = 210
Nm (154 Ft.lbs).
23.
Tapered pin locking system. Remove the tapered pin, insert the yoke hub on the power take-o and
then insert the tapered pin where the groove is. The tapered surface of the pin must join the groove of the
power take-o . Position the washer, tighten the nut (or the screw, depending on which version it is) and
verify that the PTO drive shaft is locked. Recommended tightening torque: 1.3/8" = 50 Nm (52 Ft.lbs);
1.3/4" = 70 Nm (74 Ft. lbs). Tightening torques that exceed those recommended may damage the tapered
pins, making them unusable.

Restraining chains

24.
Hook up both the restraining chains of the guard. The guard must not rotate while the PTO drive
shaft is working. The chains must be xed in a radial direction with respect to the PTO drive shaft
axis, adjusting their length so as to allow articulation of the PTO drive shaft while at the same time
preventing it from twisting.
25.
In case of restraining chains with automatic release, make sure the device is properly assembled
by verifying its axial thrust. In case the device is released during operation, verify the proper
functionality of the relevant half-guard before you re-engage it and start working again. Replace the
device after three interventions.
26.
Keep the PTO drive shaft horizontal during transport in order to prevent any injury or damage to
the guard. Do not use the guard restraining chains during transport. PTO drive shaft may weigh more
than 15 kg, so be sure to equip yourself with suitable lifting and handling means.
