2) The propeller shaft must be removable to disconnect the
flange.
CAUTION
Improper alignment can result in serious damage to
the transmission, e.g. noise, vibration and water leak
from stern tube.
Improper alignment frees ZF Hurth Marine S.p.A. from
warranty in case of failure.

CAUTION
During the installation of remote controls you must take
care that the lever travel is fully extended when oper-
ated by the bridge control. (Insufficient travel and the
consequent oil pressure drop, will result in damage to
the clutches).
TROLLING VALVE (T.V.) (Fig. 10)
The trolling valve provides a means for controlling propel-
ler speed and, therefore, boat speed, in addition to the stand-
ard forward-neutral-reverse control system. It permits
maneuvering at speeds considerably lower than normally
attainable without this device.
Typical applications are:
1) When boat speed even at minimum engine rotation speed
may be excessive.
2) When an engine-operated PTO (Power Take Off) requires
an engine rotation speed faster than that needed to pro-
pel the boat.
The trolling valve can be used in either directional mode.
Do not operate marine transmission in the trolling mode at
engine speed above1200 rpm.
Actual propeller speed can be 20÷80% lower than propel-
ler speed capacity, depending on gearbox reduction ratio,
propeller size and boat characteristics.
CAUTION
Range of use 650-1200 engine RPM
How to operate
Reduce to minimum the number of RPM of the engine, then
select the forward or reverse gear with trolling valve in off
mode.
Increase the engine RPM to maximum permissible. Then
slowly adjust trolling valve until the required speed is
reached.

NOTE
When operating in trolling mode, gearbox oil tempera-
ture must be monitored.
CAUTION
Do not shift while the gearbox is in trolling mode.
MOVING IN TOW OR ANCHORING
When the boat moves in tow or is anchored, the propeller
may turn with the water current.
This represent no danger for the transmission.
In a boat with two engines, the propeller of the unused trans-
mission may idle freely. When the engine is off, the position
of the selector valve lever is irrelevant.
WARNING
Do not work on the transmission when being towed, or
anchoring in a river because the propeller may rotate
WARNING
Do not work on the transmission in a twin engine boat,
when one unit is under power. The propeller shaft of
the inoperative transmission will rotate.
WARNING
When the engine runs idle, but the propeller shaft
should not be driven (such as when charging the bat-
tery with the generator), the shifting lever must be held
in the neutral position (N) to prevent the boat from
moving.
IV MAINTENANCE
All transmissions have been submitted to a test run before
shipment.
During normal operation, the transmission should only be
shifted with the engine at idle speed. In emergency cases it
is also admissible to shift at higher speeds. Visual checks
for leakage should be made from time to time.
WARNING
Work on the transmission must only be performed with
the engine and propeller at standstill.
CAUTION
Before the first start-up, the transmission must be filled
with recommended oil.
CAUTION
Using the transmission with an insufficient oil level will
damage the gears. An excessive oil level may cause
leakage at the shaft seals and the transmission
breather, and raise the operating temperature consid-
erably.
