The wind sensor should be fitted in a position
unshielded from the wind and away from any
possible source of eddies which could give
misleading readings. On a sailing boat the
mast head is the best position. If this is not
practical, or on a vessel without a mast, the
unit should be located as high as possible in a
position fully exposed to the wind.
Mount the base of the wind sensor to a hori-
zontal surface (e.g. horizontal with the ship in
his normal position).
Feed the cable of the wind sensor through
the base.
Select for the wind sensor a position at least
1 metre away from a VHF antenna .
Position the wind sensor in the base with the
arrow pointing towards the bow. The meter will
indicate 0 degrees for wind dead on the bow
and 90 degrees for a wind on the starboard
beam, etc.
If the system is used as a land system then
zero degrees should correspond to North.
Now position the wind sensor in the base with
the arrow pointing towards North.
Apply a moderate force to push the wind sen-
sor into the base, the sensor will 'snap' and will
be secured to the base.
In all cases ensure that the wind sensor is
securely mounted so that excessive vibrations
are prevented.

5 .3 Connections
For wiring diagram, see Section 9.
Connect the cable from the wind sensor as
shown in the diagram.
If you need to cut and rejoin the cable be sure
to connect colour to colour.
The windspeed/wind direction indicator is suit-
able for both 12 and 24 Volt DC.
Connect the power supply as per diagram.
See Section 10 for various extra connection
possibilities.
6 Maintenance
Both the meter and the wind sensor are
maintenance-free.
