Introduction
Paying attention to the following recommendations will result in
a longer lifetime and better performance from your capstan.
- Ensure correct battery voltage
- Limit voltage drop in battery cables by using cable of ade-
quate core diameter
- Regularly carry out the recommended maintenance
Use
Switch on the electric motor with the foot switch or hand-held
switch in order to pay out or haul in the rope (with the aid of the
capstan).
Maintenance
The gearbox of the capstan is lubricated for life with the lubri-
cant Agip GRMU/EP 0, a lithium complex-based grease with
anti-corrosion additives.
For battery maintenance you should consult your battery sup-
plier's instructions. VETUS batteries are maintenance-free.
When sailing in salt water, the capstan should be rinsed regu-
larly with clean (fresh) water.

Installation
For main dimensions see drawing p. 16.
General
The quality of the installation will determine the reliability of the
capstan. Almost all faults which occur can be traced back to
errors or carelessness during installation. It is therefore of the
greatest importance that the points mentioned in this manual
should be followed closely and checked during installation.
Fitting
When selecting where to install the capstan, the following
should be taken into account:
- The axis of the capstan drum must be perpendicular to the
direction the rope will run in.
- If necessary, raise the capstan mounting, using a (wooden)
pad, to comply with the above requirement.
Any curvature of the deck must also be corrected using a
(wooden) pad.
Using the drilling template, mark the following holes:
- the capstan mounting holes.
Apply a suitable sealant between the base of the capstan and
the deck, and mount the capstan with the bolts, nuts and wash-
ers supplied.
It is recommended to grease the threads with, for example,
Loctite© Anti Seize or Molykote© 1000.
Ensure that the protective (anodised) coating on the capstan is
not damaged.
