Note: It is necessary to purge ALL the air from the gear
case when replacing or adding gear oil. Slowly
squeeze the bottle until a steady stream of gear
oil runs from the vent hole
6. Install the Vent Plug while continuing to supply oil to
the gear case. Install Gear Oil Fill Plug.
Note: If the gear case oil appears milky, indicating wa
ter in the oil; or if the oil has indications of high
wear, contact an Authorized Briggs & Stratton
Dealer.
ADJUSTMENTS
STEERING ADJUSTMENT

1. Loosen lock nut

2. For tighter steering turn the screw clockwise.
3. For looser steering turn the screw counterclockwise.
4. Hold screw in position and tighten lock nut.
The tiller model of the outboard should be adjusted just tight
enough so that the outboard will not try to turn by itself.
The remote steering model should have the steering loosened
just enough to keep all linkage and cables free from binding
and easy to operate.
Note: DO NOT use the friction adjustment screw to
lock the steering. Excessive tightening of the ad
justment screw may damage the swivel bracket.
TRANSPORTING
TRAILERING THE OUTBOARD
CAUTION
Before transporting, ensure the outboard is secure. DO
NOT transport with the outboard tilted up! Trailering the
outboard unsecured or in a tilted position may damage
the outboard and/or boat. If attached to the transom,
secure to prevent bounce, tilt, or the possibility of falling
off.
• Secure the outboard in a vertical position when
transporting the outboard while attached to the boat. If
not possible, remove the outboard and secure
elsewhere.
• Use a trailer with adequate clearance to prevent damage
to the outboard from curbs, pavement or other objects.
• It is the OWNER/OPERATOR'S responsibility to secure
the outboard. If attached to the transom when
transporting, secure to prevent bounce, tilt, or the
possibility of falling off.
STORAGE
When the outboard is not going to be in service for an extended
period of time (one month or more), the batteries may still
require periodic maintenance. Battery testing should be
considered an integral part of periodic maintenance during
storage.
Refer to a marine battery manufacturer or dealer for specific
information.

SEASONAL STORAGE
1. Change gear case oil.
2. Clean outboard exterior. Wipe all components dry.
3. Apply grease to all sliding and moving components,
except speed control friction adjustment.
4. Store the outboard in a dry area.
PRE SEASON CHECK
1. Batteries are fully charged and filled.
2. All electrical connections are clean and tight.
3. Speed control rotates freely.
4. Gear oil is at the proper level.
TROUBLESHOOTING &
SERVICE
MOTOR DOES NOT RUN
Battery harness plug not properly connected.
• Unplug and re plug battery harness to outboard.
Battery harness plug terminals dirty or corroded.
• Clean battery harness plug terminals.
Battery pack discharged.
• Charge battery pack.
Battery connection loose, dirty, or corroded.
• Clean battery terminals.
• Tighten battery terminal connections.
Speed control not in STOP/RESET position when
power is turned ON to outboard.
• Rotate handle to STOP/RESET position to reset
control.
Propeller locked due to tangled weeds or other debris
when the speed control is in the RUN position.
• Rotate speed control to the STOP/RESET
position. Place ON/OFF/BATTERY TEST switch
in the OFF position. Remove the safety lanyard
from the SAFETY/MOTOR STOP switch. Discon
nect the battery harness from the outboard.
Remove the weeds or other debris. Connect the
battery harness and safety lanyard and test
outboard operation.
Fuse blown.
• Replace fuse
• Check in line fuse.
• Check fuse location.
SAFETY/MOTOR STOP switch not functioning.
• Take the outboard to an Authorized Briggs &
Stratton Service Dealer.
ON/OFF/BATTERY TEST switch not functioning.
• Take the outboard to an Authorized Briggs &
Stratton Service Dealer.
Motor or Motor Controller not responding.
• Take the outboard to an Authorized Briggs &
Stratton Service Dealer.
Store outboard and batteries in a
MOTOR LACKS POWER
clean, dry area. DO NOT store in
same area as a stove, furnace,
water heater, or other appliance
that uses a pilot light or has a
device that can create a spark.

and outboard parts. Use only genuine Briggs & Stratton parts.

service on all Briggs & Stratton engines. Only dealers

MANUFACTURER'S STATEMENT OF ORIGIN
Some states require registration of outboard motors. A
Statement of Origin form has been included with your outboard
and contains the information necessary for registration.
In the U.S.A., to determine registration requirements, you
should contact the registering agency. This varies from state to
state, but is often the Secretary of State, Department of Natural
Resources, Department of Motor Vehicles, or local law
authorities may be able to provide registration information.
If outboard registration is required, fill out the front side of the
Manufacturer's Statement of Origin, retain the purchase
receipt, and follow the requirements of the registering agency.
