Safety Instructions

Only trained professional electricians may in-
stall, startup, modify, and retrofit this equipment!
Disconnect supply voltage to the equipment /
system prior to starting any work! If installation
or system errors occur, line voltage may be pre-
sent at the control circuit in devices without DC
isolation!
Observe all electrical safety regulations issued
by the appropriate technical authorities or the
trade association.
Opening the housing or any other manipulation
will void the warranty.
Attention!
If the device has been subjected to improper or
incorrect use it must no longer be used, and the
guarantee loses its validity. Impermissible condi-
tions include:
strong mechanical stress, for example through a
fall, or voltages, currents, temperatures or hu-
midity outside of the specifications.
Before starting up your machine/plant for the
first time, please be sure to check all the safety
functions according to valid regulations, and
observe the specified test cycles for safety
equipment.
Attention!
Perform the following precautionary steps prior
to installation, assembly, or disassembly:
1.
Disconnect supply voltage to the equipment
/ system prior to starting any work!
2.
Lockout/tag the equipment / system to pre-
vent accidental activation!
3.
Confirm that no voltage is present!
4.
Ground the phases and short to ground!
5.
Protect against adjacent live components
using guards and barriers!
Attention!
Limited contact protection!

Proper Use
These devices are base modules in the samos system. They must only be used for their intended purpose
in the samos system as components of safety equipment on machines intended to protect persons, mate-
rial and plant.
Device Description
The master base module can be used on its own or together with other modules in the samos sys-
tem. Where a system is made up of several modules a master base module is always required.
9 predefined function blocks are available for each group. They are used to implement secure sys-
tem functions. Within a function block you can select various control circuit functions.
Output circuits Q3 and Q4 can shut down with OFF-delay. You can set the OFF-delay time.
Notes
The SIL acc. to EN 61508/EN 62061 and the category acc. to EN ISO 13849-1 depend on the
external circuitry, the choice of control devices and their location on the machine.
The device must be protected with a 6 A fuse (utilization category gG) or a 6 A circuit-breaker
(tripping characteristic B or C).
Never connect or disconnect modules while the operating voltage is switched on.
The device must be operated within the limits specified in the technical data.
With single-channel control of an extension module (e.g. SA-OR) via base module (SA-
BM/BS), category 4 of EN 13849-1 can be reached only, if both devices are mounted in the
same enclosure and the samos system is power-cycled once a day.
Operating several basic modules in one overall system (only when used in Germany):
In the samos system, each basic module (SA-BM, SA-BS) and each input module (SA-IN) is
hard-coded according to its system group and cannot be used in other system groups. Basic
modules with the same coding cannot be plugged together. In Germany, modules SA-BM, SA-
BS and/or SA-IN in combination with modules of the samos system delivered before April 17,
2012 (up to design status E-01) must not be used in an overall system with two or more basic
modules and at least one input module without the consent of the patent proprietor of the
German patent 100 20 075 (further information at
http://register.dpma.de/DPMAregister/pat/einsteiger).
Installation
The devices must be installed in an enclosure with at least IP54 protection.
The devices are installed on a mounting rail (EN 50022-35).
The mounting rail must be connected to protective earth (PE).
The system and the system inputs must always be powered by a common power supply unit.
The external power supply unit must comply with the regulations for safety and protection ex-
tra low voltage systems (SELV, PELV acc. to IEC 60536) and EN 50178 (Electronic Equip-
ment for Use in Power Installations).
External loads must be equipped with suppressor circuitry suited to the load (e.g. RC ele-
ments, varistors, suppressors) in order to minimize electromagnetic interference and maximize
the service life of the output switching elements.
For installation and operation of the devices observe the national instructions and instruc-
tions issued by safety authorities.
Observe the instructions and information in the manual in order to ensure correct configur-
ing, startup and operation of the device.
