Some Modules dialogue with certain vehicle components via LINs. The BCM uses 3 LINs to dialogue
with the following components:
Lin1
IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor – negative battery terminal IBS)
RLS (Rain Light Sensor – Rain sensor)
Lin2
SWS (Steering Wheel Switch bank)
RVCM (Rear View Camera Module)
Lin4
CSWC (Cruise control Steering Wheel Commands)
There is also a LIN line that connects the ECM to the voltage regulator of the intelligent alternator.
PASSIVE SAFETY SYSTEM (AIRBAG)
GENERAL INFORMATION
The car is equipped with an electronic control system that governs the activation of specific
containment devices in the event of frontal or side impact.
The front protection system includes:
Single stage activation driver and passenger front airbags;
Front seat belts with double pretensioner, load limiter and microswitch for seat belt unfastened
warning;
The side protection system consists of:
two side bags in view on the front seats;
two window bags, housed in the side roof trims;
two impact sensors housed in the central pillar.
The front protection system adopts an activation strategy which is able to automatically adapt the
activation parameters according to the severity of the impact:
Severe impacts, the control unit activates pretensioners and airbags to protect the occupant
before they come into contact with the steering wheel or dashboard.
Warning:
The airbag system components have been specifically designed to work on a specific car.
For this reason THEY CANNOT be tampered with, adapted or installed on other types of
vehicle.
For safety reasons, repairs to the wiring are NOT permitted.
The electrical connection between the airbag system components is achieved via dedicated wiring
built into the dashboard cable loom and the rear cable loom.
The connection between the control unit and the system is achieved via two connectors, one for the
dashboard cable and one for the rear cable.
The control unit is connected to the car's CAN, through which it exchanges information with the other
nodes.
Because the control unit is a B-CAN node, the airbag system is connected:
to the standard diagnosis socket via CAN
to the instrument panel, again via CAN, to control the "airbag system failure", "seat belt not
fastened" and "passenger airbag deactivated" warning lights in addition to the "belt not
fastened" buzzer.
to the Body Computer for possible end-of-line customisation (Proxy), and consequent
reduction of number of parts at Spare Parts.
