DESCRIPTION
Use Leviton's whole-house DSL Filter Expansion Board or DSL Filter Stand-alone Module to filter the DSL signal from any
4-pair telephone line before distribution throughout the home or office. This eliminates the need to install DSL filters at each
wallplate. For use with Leviton's Structured Media™ System.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: To be installed inside a listed demarcation device only, by qualified service personnel who are those that have the
knowledge, training, and or certification(s) sufficient to understanding the requirement for installing and servicing the
equipment and comply with all local/regional/national codes. Refer to Table A, page 2.
DSL Filter
odule (47616-DSB)
Align the mounting pins with the grid holes on the back of the Structured Media Enclosure. The stand-alone module may be
mounted horizontally or vertically. With mounting pin plungers in the "out" position, press the unit into the grid in the desired
location. Secure by pushing the plungers in (figure 1).
DSL Filter Expansion Board (47616-DSF)
Align the board with the desired empty slot on any plastic Leviton Pre-configured Structured Cabling Panel. Lifting the tabs
on the top slightly, slide the board into the open slot. Release the tabs and lock the board into place (figure 2).
Wiring The DSL FILTER BOARD
1. Locate the incoming 4-pair telephone service at your telephone demarcation point. Measure enough cable to route the
service, via 4-pair UTP cable, to your Structured Media Enclosure, to the DSL Filter, then to the Telephone Distribution
Module.
2. Strip just enough cable jacket to expose the wires for the entire termination (through the DSL Filter and on to the
Telephone Distribution Module). It's important to retain as much cable jacket as possible before punchdown.
3. Identify the wire pair that carries your DSL signal. You may need to contact your telephone company for this information.
4. Route the identified pair of wires down between the IDC punchdown blocks marked, then loop them back up through the
IDC punchdown blocks marked LINE OUT (figure 3).
5. Next, route the wire pair to the LINE IN blocks on your preferred telephone distribution device. Route the other three wire
pairs directly to this device as per its instructions (figure 4).
6. Using an industry standard punchdown tool, firmly punch down and trim the wires on the "line in" IDC blocks. Repeat for
the "line out" blocks and the punchdowns on your preferred telephone distribution device (figure 4).
WARNING: Punching down and cutting the LINE IN and LINE OUT wires WILL sever the direct wire connection. This
connection MUST be severed, and routed through the circuit board, in order for the board to function properly
(figure 3).
7. Connect your DSL modem (from a port likely labeled "LINE" or "PHONE") to the 8P8C jack at the bottom of the DSL filter
board. This provides unfiltered DSL service to the modem (figure 5).
