Fitting and putting into service
All Melitta-equipments is supplied ready for connection. However,
prior to connection »site survey« should be carried out by the
accredited Melitta distributor to ensure that all connections, such as
electricity, water and drain, come to within a radius of 1 metre from
where the machine is to be placed. The construction and fitting up
these connections must be carried out by a separte contractor.
Melitta, or its distributors, are not in any way responsible.
Electrical connections
The type of connection necessary depends on the specification of
the machine, therefore care should be taken to fit voltage in line with
the rating indicated on the type plate fitted to every machine. Supply
cables should be protected by fuses.
Putting into service
b Plug the cable (9) which is connected to the urn into the sokket.
b Switch on the urn using the On/Off-switch (8), the control lamp
will illuminate.
b Heat up the urn with hot water and leave for 10 minutes, before
filtering coffee. This will ensure the coffee is kept the ideal tem-
perature of 80 - 85 °C.
b The urn must be used with Condensation tray (4) to ensure the
correct temperature and the high quality of coffee.
Filter coffie machines
The modular construction of the 600 Series enables the system to
extend the Wa M605 - M620 into a complete filter coffee machine.
Melitta quick filter (3)
b The Melitta quick filter SF-Ku 206 has been specificaly designed
for 1 - 8 litre, suitable to Wa M605 and Wa M608. The correct fil-
ter paper size is Pa 206 G (No.: 1014259).
b Melitta-quick filter SF-Ku 220 has been designet for the 1 - 20
litre suitable to urn Wa M612 and Wa M620. The correct filter
paper size is Pa 220 G (No.: 1014228).
Hot water boiler KWA
With the boiler (KWA M605, M608, M612 und M620) the hot water
required can be provided automatically.
Filtering
Due to the principle of unpressurized filtering, the Melitta system
guarantees a high yield, ie: full use of the taste and aroma of the gro-
und coffee.
The richness and drinking quality of the drink are, however, only
provided by the correct ratio of quantity of water and the weighed coffee.
10
This ratio is not always constant. It depends on the sort of coffee
used and on the required filtered quantity.
If only about 1 litre is filtered, 7 g/cup may be required, while for
greater quantities 5 g/cup may be sufficient.
This means that for the same quality of coffee, less weighed coffee
is required with increasing filtered quantity.
Preqaring the filter
b Place the filter bag (turn the projecting surfaces) into the filter (3)
and fill with ground coffee or tea. Recommended weigthed
amounts: Coffee = about 5 - 7 g/cup or about 35 - 50 g/litre;
tea = about 1,5 g/cup or about 5 - 12 g/litre.
b Place the filter (3) on the heater.
Filtering
b Fill in boiling water in a gush. Keep adding water until the desi-
red amount is reached.
With a hot water boiler KWA the hot water can be provided automa-
tically.
Switching off the machine
b It is advisable that the machine is switched off when container is
empty and over night.
Cleaning and care
Caution: When cleaning the machine, parts must not be immersed
in water, doused with water, sprayed down with a water hose or pla-
ced on a surface which is cleaned with a water hose or high-pres-
sure cleaner.
Before cleaning disconnect from the main supply.
Professional coffee machines often represent a considerable invest-
ment, the value of which must be maintained. Well cared for machi-
nes not only look good, but also make better coffee for a longer time.
Melitta provide a program of care for you for this purpose.
Outside cleaning
b Wipe the plastic parts and steel surfaces regularly with a damp
cloth.
Heater
b Put cleaner into the urn. Fill with hot water. Clean with a suitable
brush and empty through the urn tap. Flush out with hot water.
Sight glasses
b Firstly remove the plug (5) before cleaning, cleanse the sight
glasses (7) with the brush provided, Art.no. 200981.
Tap
b Unwind tap (10) (turn anticlockwise) and clean outlet pipe with
the sight glass brush.
Safety instructions
b Please keep these operating instructions near the machine, so
that it is always possible for the operator to operate the machine
correctly.
b The machine must not be operated outdoors.
