TROUBLESHOOTING

ADVICE
Stop the machine, and secure it using the parking brake before carrying out any of the tests
recommended in the table below.
CAUTION!
Danger of personal injury and material damage through incorrect repairs!
Never attempt to carry out extensive repairs without the necessary tools and technical know-
ledge. Unskilled interventions automatically nullify any guarantee claim and any liability by the
manufacturer.
Fault
Control light is extinguished.
Ignition key is in position I
(DRIVE) and the engine is stop-
ped.
Starter does not work, and the
control light is permanently illu-
minated. Ignition key is in posi-
tion II (START).
Starter does not work, and the
control light flashes. Ignition key
is in position II (START).
Engine does not start. Ignition
key is in position II (START).

Possible cause
The battery cables are transpo-
sed.
Battery is discharged.
Fuse has blown.
Battery is insufficiently charged. Charge the battery.
Fuse has blown.
The battery's earth connection
has no contact.
Not all the conditions which per-
mit starting are fulfilled.
No fuel supply.
Troubleshooting
Remedy
Turn the ignition key to STOP,
and determine the cause of the
malfunction:
Check the polarity of the battery
connections, and reverse them if
they are transposed.
Clean the contacts and charge
the battery.
Replace the fuse (see section
"Fuses").
Turn the ignition key to STOP,
and determine the cause of the
malfunction:
Replace the fuse (see section
"Fuses").
Check the battery's earth con-
nection and, if corroded, clean
and/or connect an earth connec-
tion.
Turn the ignition key to STOP,
and determine the cause of the
malfunction:
Check which of the conditions
which permit starting are not ful-
filled, and correct the malfunc-
tion (see section "Ignition lock").
Check the level of fuel in the
tank, and refill if it is too low.
Open the fuel cock.
Inspect the fuel filter, and
clean or replace it if dirty.
