3.4. Using the machine
The machine is started via the switch on the grip. Once it has been started bring the
rake up to the branch to be shaken. Be careful of branches heavily loaded with fruit.
-
Grip the machine securely with both hands and make sure you have a good, stable
stance. NOTE: Never touch the moving parts of the machine.
-
To switch the machine off just bring the switch back to the off position.
-
If you do not intend to use the machine for a while, lay it flat on the ground to
prevent it accidentally falling.
Tips on using the rake:
-
Wear on the mechanical and electronic parts of the machine is closely correlated
with the way in which the machine is used. Insistently shaking a particular branch
may cause the machine to stop as a result of mechanical overload and overheating
of components. Try to limit halts to a minimum so as to extend the working life of
your equipment!
-
To prevent dangerous overloads that can damage the rake it is advisable to
intersperse the shaking action with regular pauses so as not to stress the machine
beyond the standards for which it has been designed and tested.
-
Do not use flat or damaged batteries.
4. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
4.1. Routine maintenance
Proper maintenance will ensure the machine lasts longer and costs less to run.
Periodic checks:
•
Lubricate with high bond grease the antirotation pins on which the rotor works
(item 28 in the exploded view) every 80 hours of operation.
•
Remove the handle with the motor and gearbox at every harvest season to
remove dirty or old oil from the inside. Blow clean compressed air in the motor
to remove any residues from brushes, grease the gears and close the handle.
The above checking frequencies are indicative only and refer to standard working
conditions. Frequency may vary as a function of the way the machine is used and
environmental conditions (e.g. humidity, dust). Maintenance work must be carried out
more frequently where the rake is used intensely. Before performing any operation,
make sure the machine is off and the terminals are disconnected from the battery.
NOTE: After assembling the combs, make sure that they do not collide among
them. In this case see chapter "Assembling and disassembling the combs".
