5. Before starting the equipment
Caution! Do not fi t the battery until the equipment
has been fully assembled and all the settings
have been actuated. Always wear protective
gloves when working on the equipment to protect
yourself against injury.
Carefully unpack all parts and check that they are
complete (Fig. 1).
5.1 Using the shoulder strap
Warning! Always use the shoulder strap when
working with the equipment. Switch off the equip-
ment before you take off the shoulder strap Other-
wise there is a risk of injury.
1. Hook the carabiner (Fig. 2/Item A) into the
strap attachment.
2. Slip the shoulder strap (Fig. 3/Item 5) over
your shoulder.
3. Adjust the length of the shoulder strap so that
the strap attachment is at waist level (Fig. 3).
4. The shoulder strap is equipped with a buckle.
Press the hooks together (Fig. 4) if you need
to put down the equipment quickly.
5. To change the strap position on the tool, sla-
cken the wing nut (Fig. 2/Item B) by turning it
counterclockwise and move the strap attach-
ment to the desired position on the pole (Fig.
2/ Item 4). Then retighten the wing nut (Fig. 2/
Item B) by turning it clockwise.
5.2 Fitting the cutter rail and the saw chain
•
(Fig. 5) Use the SW 13 multifunction tool
(Item 16) to remove the fastening screw for
the chain wheel cover (Item 9).
•
Remove the chain wheel cover (Item 6).
•
(Fig. 7) Lay the saw chain (Item 12) in the
groove which runs around the cutter rail (Item
11).
•
(Fig. 8) Insert the cutter rail (Item 11) and
the saw chain (Item 12) into the mount of the
pole-mounted pruner. At the same time guide
the saw chain around the chain wheel (Item
B) and hook the cutter rail into the chain ten-
sioning bolt (Item C).
•
Fit the chain wheel cover and tighten the fas-
tening screw hand-tight (Item 9).
Note: Do not fully tighten the fastening screw until
after you have adjusted the chain tension (see
section 5.3).

5.3 Tensioning the saw chain
•
Slacken the fastening screw for the chain
wheel cover slightly (use the SW 13 multi-
function tool).
•
(Fig. 10) Adjust the tension of the saw chain
by using the 4mm multifunction tool (Item 16)
to turn the chain tensioning screw (Item D).
Turning the screw clockwise increases the
chain tension, turning it counter-clockwise
decreases the chain tension. The chain ten-
sion is correct when the chain can be lifted
by about 2 mm at the center of the cutter bar
(Fig. 11).
•
Tighten the fastening screw for the chain
wheel cover (use the SW 13 multifunction
tool).
Danger! All the chain links must lie properly in
the guide groove of the cutter bar.
Notes on tensioning the chain:
The saw chain must be properly tensioned to
ensure safe operation. You can tell that the chain
tension is perfect if the saw chain can be lifted by
around 2 mm in the middle of the cutter rail (Fig.
11). As the saw chain heats up during cutting and
thus changes in length, check the chain tension
no less than every 10 minutes and adjust it again
as required. This applies in particular to new saw
chains. When you have fi nished working slacken
the chain again, as the chain will shorten when it
cools down. This will prevent the chain from being
damaged.
5.4 Adjusting the telescoping pole (Fig. 5)
•
Open the lock nut (7).
•
Pull out the telescoping pole (8) until it
reaches the required working height.
•
Retighten the locknut (7).
5.5 Installing the battery (Fig. 12)
Push the battery into the battery mount provided
(Fig. 12). When the battery is pushed in fully it will
engage audibly. To remove the battery, press the
pushlock button (Item E) and pull out the battery.
5.6 Charging the battery (Fig. 12, 13)
1. Take the battery pack out of the equipment.
Do this by pressing the pushlock button.
2. Check that your mains voltage is the same as
that marked on the rating plate of the battery
charger. Insert the power plug of the charger
into the mains socket outlet. The green LED
will then begin to fl ash.
3. Insert the battery pack into the battery char-
