INSTRUCTIONS FOR HARDWIRING THE
UNIT
The unit also has the option of being
hardwired to allow connection directly
into the buildings fixed wiring. The existing
power cable should be removed from the
unit, and disposed of safely. The cable
from the buildings supply can be inserted
through the same entry point, which is
hidden from view from the front of the
unit, providing a discrete wiring solution.
The cable entry point is shown on the
mounting template provided. For a neat
solution, the buildings wiring should
emerge from the wall as close to this point
as possible. If this option is used it must be
performed by a qualified electrician. Ensure
the unit is properly earthed. You must also
ensure that a disconnection device is fitted
in accordance with the wiring rules when
connected to fixed wiring.
CAUTION - Ensure the mains power
supply is switched off at the fuse box
and remove the fuse or circuit breaker
protecting the circuit.
The unit must first be disassembled by
removing both the front cover and reflector
components.
Firstly, unclip the front cover from the
housing (see COVER OPERATION) and
place front side down on a soft, debris
free surface to avoid any scratching of the
surface. Remove the tube (see CHANGING
TUBES) and place to one side.
Next, unscrew the 2 screws securing the
reflector. The reflector can then be moved
aside to gain access to the internal wiring.
Unscrew the small screws on the terminal
block which are holding in place the live,
earth and neutral wires leading from the
power cable, and pull them out of the
terminal block. The terminal block can be
lifted off its fixing pegs for greater access if
required. There is no need to remove any
wires running from the terminal block to
the ballast. The earth wire leading from the
terminal block to the reflector must also
not be touched.
Next, remove the screw which is holding
in place the large plastic washer and
clamping the power cable into its retention
feature. The power cable can now be
removed from the unit. This cable should
now be discarded safely. Replace the
plastic washer and screw in case these are
required for future use.
WIRING DIAGRAM
To rewire the unit, the buildings fixed
wiring cable should be ran through the
cable entry point into the housing. The
earth wire, once properly insulated, should
FRONT COVER
be connected back to the terminal block as
before.
Check that the unit is fully earthed and that
REFLECTOR
the earth wire is secured before continuing
HOUSING
with installation. Once earthed, the live and
neutral cables can then be reconnected
to the terminal block as before. Ensure
all cables are securely fastened by firmly
tugging on them. None of the cables
running from the terminal block to the
ballast, or the earth wire running to the
reflector, should be tampered with.
Once the unit is safely rewired, it can then
be reassembled. Assembly is the opposite
procedure of disassembly.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
To maintain the attractive appearance of
the unit, wipe down and clean as often as
required. Use a cloth dampened with water
and detergent or a proprietary cleaner.
Do not use scouring pads or abrasives as
this will scratch the unit. Do not use any
solvents to clean the plastic parts of the
unit, as this may degrade the plastic over
time and cause it to become brittle.
The UV tubes in electric fly traps should
be changed at least once per year. Tubes
are most attractive to the target flying
insects when less than one year old. This is
because the UV light emitted by the tubes
at a wavelength of 350-375 nanometres
diminishes with use. Light of this
wavelength is invisible to the human eye.
Daily switching on and off of the lamps
results in an even faster loss of the effective
UV emission. Therefore leave the tubes
switched on continuously and change
them at least once per year (preferably at
the onset of increased fly activity after the
winter).
COVER OPERATION
Switch off the machine before servicing.
To remove the cover from the unit, holding
the integrated handle:
1. Slide the cover sideways to the right (or
downwards if vertically mounted) to
release the latch mechanism.
2. Lift the left edge of the cover by pulling
the handle gently towards you.
3. Lift the cover over the two hooks and
away from the housing and place front
side down on a soft, debris free surface
to avoid any scratching of the surface.
