7.1 Establishing connections

 Fig. 3 Control elements and connections on page EN-10
Close off the gas supply.
1
Use a hose cutter to cut the insulating hose at a suitable point and connect it to the gas supply line (K)
2
and gas discharge line (F).
Fix the measurement shunt to the welding current cable or ground cable.
3
Connect the connection cable of the measurement shunt to the measurement shunt connection (I).
4
Establish Ethernet (G) and CANopen (H) connections (only for EWR 2 Net).
5
 7.2 Setting the communication interfaces on page EN-14
Turn on gas supply completely and check for leaks. If necessary, turn off the gas supply and note the

instructions in the following chapter: 11 Faults and troubleshooting on page EN-22

7.2 Setting the communication interfaces

The serial interface (connection for the jack plug) is used for communication with the device (EWR 2/
EWR 2 Net). The Ethernet interface is only available with the EWR 2 Net device version and can be used
as an alternative communication interface.

7.2.3 Communication syntax (serial and Ethernet)

 14 Description of interface on page EN-24
The same data is transmitted via the Ethernet and serial interfaces. If a data set is requested via an interface,
the device sends the reply back via both interfaces. Only one interface may be used, otherwise it is not
possible to uniquely assign a reply to a request. The device is initially passive upon start; communication is
started externally in the form of commands. Each command has a certain number of arguments and the final
[CR][LF] (Ascii: 0x0D 0x0A).

Separated by spaces. A reply is sent for each command. The reply
consists in turn of the same command and a specific number of
arguments and the [CR][LF]. There are also commands that
produce a multi-row reply. Multi-row commands are only possible
via the serial interface, not via Ethernet.
If the error is unknown or if the authorization is not sufficient, error
message "err1" is issued. If the command exists, the authorization
exists, but the number of arguments is wrong, error message "err2"
is issued. If the command exists, the authorization exists, the number
of arguments is correct, but the values of the arguments lie outside
the permissible limits, error message "err3" is issued.
