8.1
Switch on the hedge trimmer
WARNING
■ The motor accelerates and the cutting blades
run regardless of the sequence in which the
control bar and trigger are depressed. If you
depress the trigger first and then the control
bar, you may lose control of the hedge trim‐
mer. This may result in serious injury to the
user.
► Depress the control bar first and then the
trigger.
► Depress the control bar (1) and hold it in that
position.
► Press the locking lever (2) down with your
thumb and hold it there.
► Press the trigger (4) with your index finger and
keep it depressed.
The hedge trimmer accelerates and the cutting
blades run.
The locking lever (2) can be released.
If the ergo lever (3) is pressed, the locking lever
(2) remains unlocked. This means the trigger (4)
can be released and pressed again without hav‐
ing to press down the locking lever again.
If the trigger (4) and the ergo lever (3) are
released, the trigger (4) is locked. The locking

lever (2) must be pushed down again and held to
unlock the trigger (4).
8.2
Switching off the hedge trim‐
mer
► Release the control bar and the trigger.
► Wait for the cutting blades to come to a com‐
plete standstill after about 1 second.
► If the cutting blades continue to run after about
1 second: Remove the battery and contact
your STIHL dealer for assistance.
Your hedge trimmer is defective.

9.1
Checking the controls
Locking lever, ergo lever and trigger
► Remove the battery.
► Try pressing the trigger without pressing the
locking lever.
► If the trigger can be pressed: Do not use your
hedge trimmer and contact your STIHL author‐
ized dealer.
The locking lever is defective.
► Press the locking lever down with your thumb
and hold it there.
► Press and hold ergo lever.
► Press the trigger.
The locking lever can be released.
► Release the trigger and the ergo lever.
► If the locking lever, trigger or ergo lever is stiff
or does not spring back to the initial position:
Stop using the hedge trimmer and contact a
STIHL authorized dealer.
The locking lever, trigger or ergo lever is
defective.
Control bar
► Remove the battery.
► Depress the control bar and release it again.
► If the control bar is stiff or does not spring
back to its idle position: Do not use your
hedge trimmer and contact your STIHL author‐
ized dealer.
The control bar is defective.
Switching on the hedge trimmer
► Insert battery.
► Depress the control bar and release it again.
► If the cutting blades have run or are running:
Do not use your hedge trimmer and contact
your STIHL authorized dealer.
The trigger is defective.
