Monitoring the wound:
In order to guarantee reliable therapy, the wound
dressing has to be checked frequently, whereby the
imperviousness of the wound dressing and the wound
margins as well as the exudate must be checked for
signs of infection. In the event of signs of an infection,
the treating physician must be informed immediately.
Dressing change:
Each time the dressing is changed the wound must be
thoroughly cleansed in accordance with the physician's
instructions and applicable hygiene standards. If the
patient complains of pain while the dressing is being
changed, premedication, the use of a non-adhering
wound contact layer or the administration of a local
anaesthetic should be considered.
The dressing must be changed at regular intervals of
48 hours. In the case of infected wounds, the dressing
should be changed at intervals of 12 to 24 hours. On
removing the foam material, it must be ensured that
all the pieces of foam that have been introduced are
removed.

Adhesion of the dressing to the wound:
If the wound dressing adheres to the wound, saline
solution can be added to the foam material. After a
contact time of 15 – 30 minutes, the dressing should
then be carefully removed from the wound. In the
case of wounds with a known tendency to adhesion,
the use of a non-adhering wound contact layer should
be considered.
