SETTING
• Turn the crankshaft clockwise in the normal direction of rotation and set the first cylinder 40°
after TDC.
• Insert crankshaft timing pin (5).
• Dismantle the cylinder head covers.
• Mount camshaft holding tools (2).
• Mount the camshaft alignment tools (3).
• Remove secondary timing chain tensioner.
• Insert camshaft adjuster holding tool (4) between camshaft adjuster of left and right cylinder
banks.
• Loosen the screw on the camshaft adjusters.
• Remove camshaft adjuster holding tool (4).
• Remove camshaft adjuster from left and right cylinder banks. Note: If camshaft adjusters were
removed, they must be replaced.
• Install the camshaft adjuster and secondary timing chain of the right and left cylinder banks as a
unit. Note: It is essential to replace the camshaft adjuster bolts.
• First tighten the screw on the camshaft adjusters hand-tight, then loosen again by 90°.
• Mount camshaft alignment tools (3).
• Install timing chain holding tools (1).
• Install the secondary timing chain tensioners.
• Insert camshaft adjuster holding tool (4) between camshaft adjuster of left and right cylinder
banks.
• Tighten the screw on the camshaft adjusters.
• Remove crankshaft timing pin (5), camshaft alignment tools (3) and camshaft adjuster holding
tool (4).
• Turn the crankshaft two turns to the right and set the first cylinder to 40° after TDC.
• Insert crankshaft timing pin (5).
• Ensure that all timing tools can be fitted and that the camshaft alignment tools are flush with the
cylinder head.
• Remove special tools.
• Install cylinder head covers.
• Note: The crankshaft pulley bolt must be replaced.
