Cutting a live cord can result in the metal parts of the power tool being live, which can result in shock to the operator.
Use clamps or other means to secure the workpiece to a stable surface. Holding the workpiece with your hand or any part of
your body will not provide stability and may result in loss of control.
EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION
Warning! Only install the equipment when the supply voltage is disconnected. Remove the battery from the tool socket! !
Caution! It is always necessary to replace all the blades the planer is provided with. It is forbidden to use the tool without all the
blades fi tted. The drum spins at high speed and is specially balanced to work with all blades fi tted. If not all blades are fi tted, the
planer may be damaged during operation, which can lead to serious injury.
Replacing the drive belt
Remove the drive belt cover (II). While carefully levering the edge of the belt near the smaller pulley with a wide, fl at screwdriver,
simultaneously rotate the belt with the larger pulley (III) until the belt slides off the smaller pulley.
Put the new belt on the larger pulley, make sure that the wedges on the inside of the belt hit the grooves of the pulley. While slid-
ing the belt onto the smaller pulley, simultaneously rotate the belt with the larger pulley until the belt overlaps the smaller pulley.
Ensure that all the wedges on the inner surface of the belt hit the corresponding pulley grooves (IV).
Installing and changing blades
Before changing blades, it is recommended to remove the drive belt guard (II), which will make it easier to manoeuvre the drum
during blade assembly. The blades should be disassembled one by one in order to maintain the correct assembly pattern.
To dismantle the blade, the screws fi xing the blade holder must be screwed in (V). Remove the handle (VI) and then slide the blade
out of the handle (VII). Thoroughly clean the blade mounting area, the blade and all attachment components from dust generated
during work, for example with a soft bristle brush.
Slide the new blade into the holder, the blade has a notch that allows for the correct direction of the blade. Then slide the handle
into the drum slot. Pay attention to the correct assembly direction, turn the drum and install the blade holder in the same manner
as for the other blades. By unscrewing the blade holder fi xing screws alternately, lock the holder with the blade in the drum slot.
The blade handle has screws that allow the blade to be levelled. The handles have been levelled at the factory and adjustments
should only be made if uneven blade wear is observed. The edge of the blade holder should be parallel to the edge of the drum
gap (VIII).
Repeat the operation for the remaining blades. Always replace the blades as a set. Rotate the drum with the mounted blades a
few full turns in one direction and the other and make sure that the blades or fi xing elements do not catch on the tool structure.
Install the drive belt guard.
Warning! It is forbidden to use the planer without the drive belt guard installed.
PREPARING FOR WORK
Before starting work, make sure that the body and battery are not damaged. In case of damage, do not proceed with work.
Warning! All activities related to replacing the blades, drive belt, installing covers and guides, adjusting etc. should be
carried out with the tool disconnected from the supply voltage. For this reason, before proceeding with such activities:
Remove the battery from the tool socket!
Before using the planer for the fi rst time, check that the blades and blade shaft are adjusted and securely fastened.
Planing depth setting (IX)
Set the desired planing depth by turning the knob. The setting can be read off the scale around the dial.
Chip extraction
An external dust extraction system must always be used during operation. The use of an external dust extraction system improves
effi ciency and safety at work. Connect the end of the external dust extraction system to the spigot in such a manner that it does
not interfere with work and does not obstruct the view of the working area.
The planer has a switch that allows you to select dust extraction on one or the other side of the tool. Move the switch lever to one
of the extreme positions (X). It is forbidden to set the lever in an intermediate position between the extreme positions. The dust
extraction system should be connected to the spigot opposite the lever.
Rechargeable battery
Only one of the following YATO Li-Ion 18 V batteries can be used to power the tool: YT-82842, YT-82843, YT-82844, YT-82845,
which can only be charged with YATO YT-82848 or YT-82849 chargers. It is forbidden to use other batteries with a diff erent rated
voltage and not matching the device battery socket. It is forbidden to modify the socket or battery to make them match.
Slide the battery into the socket with the contacts facing inside the tool until the battery latch engages. Make sure that the battery
will not slide out on its own during operation. Disconnect the battery by pressing and holding the latch and then pulling the battery
out of the tool housing.
