If necessary,with the log splitteron levelground,usea funnelto
fill enginewith oil to the FULLmarkon the dipstick.Be careful not
to overfill.Overfillingwill causethe engineto smokeprofuselyand
will resultin poor engineperformance.

Checkthe oil levelthreetimesprior to startingtheengineto be
certainyou'vegottenan accuratedipstickreading.Runningthe
enginewith too little oil can resultin permanentenginedamage.
Gasoline
1.
Removethe fuel cap fromthe fuel tank.
2.
Makesurethe containerfrom which youwill pour thegasolineis
cleanand freefrom rust or foreignparticles.Neveruse gasoline
that may be stale from long periodsof storagein its container.
Gasolinethat hasbeen sittingfor anyperiod longerthanfour
weeksshouldbe consideredstale.
3.
Fillthe fuel tank with about 1.5quartsof clean,freshgasolinewith
a minimumof 85 octane.
NOTE: Neveroverfillthe fuel tank.Fill tank to no morethan 1/2 inch
belowbottomof filler neckto providespacefor fuel expansion.
PREPARING
THE LOG SPLITTER
1.
Lubricatethe beamarea (wherethe splittingwedgewill slide)with
engineoil. Do notuse grease.
2.
Removethe vented reservoirdipstick,which is locatedin frontof
theengine on top of the reservoirtank. See Figure6.
4.
Replacethe venteddipsticksecurely, t ighteningit untilthe top of
the threadsare flush with topof thepipe.
5.
Disconnectthe sparkplug and primethe pumpby pullingthe
recoilstarteras far as it willgo. Repeatapproximately 10times.
6.
Reconnect t he spark plugwire and start theenginefollowingthe
instructionsin the Operationsection.
7.
Usethe controlhandleto engagethe wedgeto thefarthest
extendedposition.Thenretractthewedge.
8.
Refillthe tank as specifiedon the dipstick.
NOTE: Failureto refillthe tank will voidthe splitter'swarranty.
9.
Extendand retractthe wedge12 completecycles to removeany
air trappedin the system(the systemis "self-bleeding").
10. Refillthe reservoirwithin the rangemarkedon the dipstick.
NOTE: Somefluidmay overflowfromthe vent plug as the system
buildsheatand thefluid expandsand seeksa balancedlevel.
Tire Pressure
The max recommended operatingpressureis 30 psi. Donot, under
any circumstances, e xceedthe manufacturer's recommended psi.
Maintainequal pressureon all tires.
NOTE:The log splitteris filledto the properoperatinglevelfrom the
manufacturer with ShellTellus®32 HydraulicFluid.However, y ou
MUSTcheckthe fluid levelbeforeoperating.If not filled,proceedwith
thefollowingsteps:
Muchof the originalfluid hasbeen drawnintothe cylinderand hoses.
Makecertainto refillthe reservoirto preventdamageto the hydraulic
pump.

Checkthe fluid levelusingthe dipstick.See Figure7.Do not
overfill.
