HOW TO INSTALL AND REMOVE THE
MULCHING PLUG (IF EQUIPPED)
WARNING
Do not operate the lawn mower unless the mulching
plug or grass catcher is installed.
The mulching plug allows the blade to re-cut the grass
clippings within the mower housing so they are reduced in
size and will disperse into the grass. The mulched clippings
will biodegrade quickly to provide nutrients for the lawn.
Always mulch with your highest engine (blade) speed, as
this will provide the best re-cutting action of the blade.
1. Remove the grass catcher, if installed.
2. To install the mulching plug, raise the door on the rear
of the mower housing.
3. Insert the mulching plug into the discharge opening and
close the door.
4. To remove the mulching plug, raise the door and lift the
plug out of the discharge opening.

FOR BEST MOWING RESULTS
For regularly maintained grass
• Adjust the cutting height so that only the top one-third of
the grass is cut
• Operate the engine speed at FAST for best mulching or
bagging performance
• Change the cutting direction from one mowing to the next
to prevent patterns in the lawn
For very tall grass
• Raise the cutting height to a high position and adjust
the drive speed control to SLOW (if equipped) to avoid
plugging the mower housing with clippings
• Operate the engine speed at FAST for best mulching or
bagging performance
• If desired, mow the area a second time – perpendicular to
the first cutting – at a lower cutting height
For thick grass
• Reduce the width of cut and adjust the drive speed
control to SLOW (if equipped) to avoid plugging the
mower housing with clippings
• Operate the engine speed at FAST for best mulching or
bagging performance
• If desired, mow the area a second time – perpendicular to
the first cutting – at a lower cutting height
For wet grass
• Do not mow when the grass is wet
• Wet grass will not mulch or discharge into the grass
catcher effectively
• Wet grass tends to plug the mower housing and leave
clumps of clippings on the ground
