AREA OF USE
3.1. INTENDED USE
This reusable device is an accessory for ZEISS phaco systems. It has been designed
to connect the diathermy handpieces to the main device during human eye
surgery.
3.2. INDICATION
Cauterization using bipolar diathermy is achieved by sending high frequency
electric current generated by a low voltage unit through tissues. Due to the Joule
effect, the current raises the temperature of the tissue it passes through and
causes the cauterization of the surrounding vessels. Due to its very nature, high
frequency current tends to interest only superficial vessels, therefore guaranteeing
that the phenomenon remains as circumscribed as possible.
3.3. CONTRAINDICATION
Not to be used for patients carrying cardiac stimulator or stimulating electrodes
because of radio frequency interference caused by the diathermy generator!
