Connect t he second cable(negative -) to the otherpostofthe jumper
battery.

Connect t he otherendof the negative cableto the engineblockof the
tractor,awayfrom the battery. A ttachtoan unpaintedpartto assure agood
connection.

Remove t he deckfrombeneaththetractor,(referto CuttingDeckRemoval
earlierinthissection) t hengentlyflip the deck overto expose its underside.
2.
Place ablockof woodbetweenthe centerdeckhousingbaffleandthe
cutting bladeto actasa stabilizer. S eeFigure 26.
3.
Remove t he hexflangenut that secures t he bladeto the spindleassembly.
If thejumperbatteryisinstalled onavehicle (i.e.car, t ruck), d o NOT s tart
thevehicle's engine whenjump startingyourtractor.
5.
Startthetractor(asinstructed earlierin thissectionofthismanual).
6.
Setthe tractor'sparkingbrakebeforeremoving thejumpercables, i nreverse
orderof connection.
Charging
Batteriesgive off an explosivegaswhile charging.Chargethe battery ina
well ventilatedarea andkeepawayfrom anopenflame or pilotlight ason a
water heater,spaceheater,furnace,clothesdryeror other gasappliances.
HexFlangeNut
Whenchargingyourtractor's battery,useonlya chargerdesignedfor 12Vlead-
acidbatteries.Read yourbattery charger's Owner's Manualprior to charging
yourtractor'sbattery. Alwaysfollow itsinstructions a ndheeditswarnings.
If yourtractorhasnot beenput into usefor anextended periodof time,charge the
batteryasfollows:
1.
Setyourbatterycharger t o deliveramaxof 10amperes.
2.
If yourbatterycharger i sautomatic, c hargethe batteryuntil the charger
indicates thatchargingiscomplete. I fthe charger i s notautomatic, c harge
forno fewerthaneighthours.
Fuse
One20AMPfuseisinstalledin yourtractor'swiring harness t o protect t he tractor's
electrical s ystem from damage caused byexcessive a mperage.
If the electrical s ystemdoesnot function,or yourtractor'senginewill not crank,
first check to becertainthatthe fusehasnot blown.It canbefoundatthe rearof
the unit, underneath the fenderlocated bythe battery.
Alwaysuseafuse with the sameamperagecapacityfor replacement.
Cutting Blades
Shutthe engine offand removeignitionkeybeforeremoving the cutting
blade(s)for sharpeningor replacement. Protectyourhandsbyusing heavy
gloveswhen graspingthe blade.
Periodicallyinspect t he bladeand/or spindlefor cracksor damage,
especiallyafter you've struckaforeign object.Donot operatethe machine
until damagedcomponents a rereplaced.
Toremove the blades, p roceed asfollows:

Toproperlysharpen the cuttingblades, r emove equal a mountsofmetal
from bothendsof the bladesalongthe cuttingedges, p arallel t o thetrailing
edge,at a25°- to 30°angle.Always grindeachcutting bladeedgeequallyto
maintainproperbladebalance. S ee Figure 27.

If the cutting edgeof the bladehaspreviously beensharpened,or if any
metal separationis present,replacethe bladeswith new ones.
A poorlybalancedbladewill causeexcessive vibration,maycausedamageto
the tractor and/or result inpersonalinjury.
Testthe blade'sbalanceusinga bladebalancer. G rindmetalfrom the
heavysideuntil it balances e venly.
