1 Operating Elements and Connections

1.1 Front panel

1 Control LED to display overload, the battery con-
dition or the phantom voltage
2 Selector switch for the control LED (1)
PEAK position: LED displays overload
BATT. position: LED displays the battery condition
3 Multiple contact switch for the input amplification
4 Controller to adjust the lower cut-off frequency, i. e.
the frequency from which the signals are filtered
(Low Cut Filter)
5 On/Off switch of the Low Cut Filter
CUT position:
FLAT position: filter switched off
6 Groundlift switch for the XLR output jack (10)
GND position: the XLR jack is connected to the
LIFT position:
7 Switch for the phase condition of the BAL. OUT

time the output level for the BAL. OUT output can
be selected
8 Controller to control the upper cut-off frequency, i. e.
the frequency up to which the signals are passed

2 Safety Notes

This device is in accordance with EC directive 89/336/
EEC for electromagnetic compatibility as well as direc-
tive 73/23/EEC for low voltage.
The device is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
from humidity and heat (admissible ambient tempe-
rature 0–40 °C).
If the device is used for other purposes than orig-
inally intended or if it is wrongly operated or not
repaired by an expert, no liability can be assumed for
probable damages.
Use a dry soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use any
chemicals or water.
Should the device definitively be put out of operation,
same has to be disposed of in a local recycling plant.

3 Application
This Active DI Box (Direct Injection) serves as an opti-
mal connection of a musical instrument with high
ohmic, unbalanced output to a low ohmic balanced
input of a mixer (figure 5). By means of the balanced
connection to the mixer, interferences can also be
avoided with long connecting cables. In case of pro-
blems with hum loops, the ground connection between
instrument and mixer can be separated by means of
the groundlift switch.
High signal levels can be reduced by means of the
multiple contact switch for the input amplification.
Thereby, the DI Box can also be connected directly to
the speaker output of an instrument amplifier (figure 6).
Consequently, the influence of the sound at the mixer
input will be maintained by the amplifier (e. g. guitar or
tube amplifier).

4 Power Supply

The DI Box can be operated with two 9 V batteries or
via the mixer's phantom powering.

4.1 Battery operation

1) Unscrew both screws on the device sides and
remove the lower part of the device.
2) Lift up the upper part of the foamed material inlet.
Insert two 9 V batteries or change them if required.
3) Reposition the foamed material inlet so that the bat-
teries cannot move.
4) Fasten the lower part of the device with screws.
4.2 Phantom powering
The highest dynamic reserve is available if the phan-
tom powering is +48 V. In this case, the power is sup-
plied via the mixer's XLR jack (10). Set the groundlift
switch (6) to position "GND" and connect the XLR jack
via a XLR cable to a mike input at the mixer. Switch on
phantom powering at the mixer. If batteries are inserted
in the DI Box, these batteries will be switched off auto-
matically. The min. voltage for the phantom powering is
+24 V.
5 Providing connections
The DI Box functions without transformer. Therefore a
d.c. separation between input and outputs is not pos-
sible.
1) Connect the output of the musical instrument to the
INPUT jack (13) – figure 5.
Alternatively the input jack can be connected to
the speaker's output of an instrument amplifier, also
to transfer the influence of the sound by the ampli-
fier (figure 6). Do not connect the speaker outputs
of amplifiers operating as bridge circuit, as they are
short circuited by the DI Box.
Caution! The output voltage of the amplifier must
not exceed 65 V. Otherwise the DI Box can be over-
loaded. This results in 500 W at a 8 Ω speaker or
1000 W at a 4 Ω speaker. Set the INPUT GAIN SE-
LECTOR multiple contact switch (3) to position
