INTRODUCTION

The compact and powerful Palmer STUDIOMON 5 is a 2-way nearfield studio monitor with bi-amping tech-
nology. It has a magnetically shielded 5-inch woofer with elastic rubber surround, a 0.75-inch tweeter with silk
calotte, and a bassreflex port for extended low frequency performance. The speakers are run with 30 watt
class AB amplifiers that provide a well-defined sound, and have a high dynamic range and excellent transient
response. Balanced line inputs, with XLR and 6.35 mm jacks complete the professional features.

SETUP AND POSITIONING OF THE STUDIO MONITORS
The Palmer STUDIMON5 control loudspeakers are nearfield monitors that are best positioned around one
meter from the listening position. Set the monitors up upright, with the tweeter at the top, so that your listening
position, the left and right monitors form an equilateral triangle. The speakers should also be set up at the
same height as your listening position. The tweeter of the monitor should be at around ear height, or in other
words directly aimed at the ears. If possible, do not position the monitors in the corner of a room, and avoid
direct side wall, ceiling or ground reflection in the direction of the listening position. Using separate monitor
stands prevents mechanical coupling with a surface. Because spatial conditions often mean that opti-
mal monitor and listening positions cannot be achieved, equalization with a multi-band equalizer may be
required. Purposefully arranged acoustic absorbers also help optimize room acoustics. Set the monitors up in
the listening room in such a way that there is no asymmetry in the monitor positioning (e.g. one monitor in a
corner, the other standing freely in the room), as this asymmetry can create a drastically differing frequency
response between the two monitors and prevent accurate, homogeneous stereo sound.

CABLING

Cabling with unbalanced signal cables (e.g. shielded cables with mono jack plugs) is fundamentally
possible, however, due to their lower susceptibility to interference, balanced cabling with shielded XLR
cables is preferable.
