ABOUT VITALSTIM THERAPY

CAUTION

• Electrode placement and stimulation settings should be based on the guidance
of the prescribing practitioner or other licensed health professional, certified in
VitalStim Therapy.
• Powered muscle stimulators should be kept out of the reach of children.
• Powered muscle stimulators should be used only with the leads and electrodes
recommended for use by the manufacturer.
• Portable powered muscle stimulators should not be used while driving, operating
machinery, or during any activity in which involuntary muscle contractions may put
the user at undue risk of injury.
• Always check the stimulation controls before treating a patient.
• Always turn the unit off before removing electrodes from the skin.
• Always turn the unit off before replacing the battery.
• For long term storage of the VitalStim Unit, the batteries should be removed.
• Stimulation should not be applied over, or in proximity to, cancerous lesions.

WARNING

• Federal law restricts this device to sale by, or on the order of, a physician
or licensed practitioner. This device should be used only by a physician or
licensed practitioner certified in VitalStim Therapy.
• Extra care should be taken when this device is used with children.
• Care must be taken when operating this equipment around other
equipment. Potential electromagnetic or other interference could occur
to this or to the other equipment. Try to minimize this interference by not
using other equipment in conjunction with it.
• Before administering any treatment to a patient, the operator must be certified
in VitalStim Therapy.
• The long term effects of chronic electrical stimulation are unknown.
• Stimulation should not be applied transthoracically because the
introduction of electrical current into the heart may cause cardiac arrhythmias.
• Stimulation should not be applied transcerebrally.
• Stimulation should not be applied over swollen, infected, or inflamed areas or
skin eruptions, e.g., phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, varicose veins, etc.
• Dispose of all used accessories and spent batteries according to local, state and
federal codes and regulations.

DANGER

• Stimulation should not be applied over the carotid sinus nerve particularly in
patients with a known sensitivity to the carotid sinus reflex as death or serious
injury is likely to occur.
• Use only electrodes and accessories designed specifically for use with the
VitalStim Therapy Unit. Use of other accessories and/or techniques not
approved under the VitalStim certification training may result in death, injury,
or adverse effects to patient or undesirable and ineffective results.
