SPECIAL FEATURES

EN
The Leica Summilux-SL 1:1.4/50 ASPH. is chazterized by its even, excellent contrast rendition and
the highest resolution, even with an open aperture, across almost the entire image field from infinite
right up to close range. All image errors are corrected well or are compensated for digitally inside the
camera. Although stopping down results in a further, slight increase in performance, in most cases it
is not necessary for reasons of image composition with depth of field.
A total of 11 lenses are used to achieve this performance. Four of them comprise lenses with
anamolous partial dispersion (divergent color dispersion); they make a key contribution to minimizing
the chromatic image errors (longitudinal and transverse color defects) over the whole setting range.
The rearmost lens of the focussing group and the rearmost group each have aspherical surfaces on
both sides.
Only one of the three smallest lens of the existing group is moved for focussing. Thanks to this internal
focussing, the overall length of the lens remains the same.
The high-quality coatings on all lens surfaces help to ensure low reflection and light scatter; in
addition, the external lens surfaces are protected by a dirt-repellent coating.
The sturdy metal construction and the protection against dust and splash water mean that the lens
can also be used in adverse conditions.
Summary: The Leica Summilux-SL 1:1.4/50 ASPH. offers an extremely good performance, from the
infinite setting right up to close-up, with open aperture just as much as when stopped down. Its high
light intensity and its universal "normal" focal length combine to make it ideally suited to applications
such as portrait, availalble light and reportage photography.
