SAFETY GUIDELINES

Place your BODUM
• Always place the charcoal on the charcoal grate (3) and not directly on the base of the grilling bowl (4).
• Do not add charcoal over the lower grill grate (2).
• The charcoal grate (3) should not be used as a grill grate.
• Never touch the grill or grate to determine whether they are hot.
• Always wear barbecuing mitts or use an oven cloth when grilling in order to protect your hands.
• Use grill utensils (BODUM
• If you wish to extinguish the charcoal, wait until the charcoal and all parts of the grill have completely cooled down.
Never use water to extinguish the charcoal as this may damage the enamel surface.
• Never use water to extinguish burning fat. Instead, move your food to another place on the grilling grates (1/2) and
wait a few seconds until the fat has burned off.
• Take care when using hot electric lighters and keep them in a safe place. Please observe the relevant instructions.
• Please keep electric cables away from hot surfaces.

USEFUL TIPS

• Once you have lit the charcoal, wait approx. 25 to 30 minutes until the charcoal is covered with a thin grey coating
before you start to grill.
• Only use good-quality charcoal or coconut briquettes and store them in a dry place as they easily absorb moisture
and burn badly in this state. If you want to store briquettes outside, we recommend using a weather-proof con-
tainer with an air-tight lid.
• If you use lighting fluid, please allow it to soak into the charcoal for a few minutes before lighting it.
WARNING! Make sure no lighting fluid accumulates in the grilling bowl (4).
• Use a spatula (BODUM FYRKAT barbecue spatula) or tongs (BODUM FYRKAT barbecue nipper) to turn the barbecue
food. Avoid using sharp objects to pierce the meat as this can cause meat juices and flavor to escape.
• Ideally, turn the barbecue food once only. Follow the tips in your recipe.
• Never grease the grilling grates (1 / 2) directly with oil. To achieve a more uniformly browned surface and prevent
the barbecue food from sticking to the grilling grate, it may help if you brush your food lightly with oil.
• Do not line your grill with aluminium foil as this can hinder the flow of air.
• Maximum charcoal filling level: 6 cm above the charcoal grate (3).

GRILLING TIPS

Please read all instructions and tips carefully before you start to grill.
Positioned one above the other, the two grilling grates (1 / 2) allow food to be cooked at different intensities of heat.
The lower, small grilling grate (2) is ideally suited for barbecuing food that needs to be cooked quickly at a high
temperature (e.g. steaks, kebabs, chops, etc.).
The upper, large grilling grate (1) is excellent for grilling food that requires lower temperatures and longer cooking
times (e.g. vegetables, sausages, chicken or fish fillets, etc.).
Try to place the food as near to the centre of the grill as possible to ensure even weight distribution.
Exact cooking times can vary according to the type and size of the food you are grilling. For this reason you should
follow the instructions in your recipe.
Caution! Fat from barbecue food dripping onto hot charcoal can cause a sudden burst of flames. Do not extinguish
these flames with water. Instead, arrange the charcoal on the charcoal grate (3) in such a way that no fat can drip
onto glowing charcoal.
