1. Safety instructions
For safety reasons (risk of explosion owing to spark
production), set the combined voltage and char-
ging current selector switch (4) to „0" (off) before
connecting the charging cables and before
connecting to the mains supply.
After charging, set the switch (4) to position
„0" (off) before disconnecting the char-
ging cable and before disconnection
from the mains supply.
Do not charge maintenance-free batteries at
the same time as standard batteries.
Do not operate the unit in washing installations
or damp rooms. Protect against splash water.
Observe the information provided by the ve-
hicle manufacturer when charging a battery
in the vehicle or when starting with jump
leads. If electronic equipment could be da-
maged as a result, disconnect the wires to the
battery before charging.
Caution: Charging gases are explosive.
Do not smoke in the proximity of the battery.
Avoid naked flames and production of sparks
when handling cables and electrical devices.
For this reason, it is essential to observe the
order of steps for battery connection descri-
bed in the sections „5. Connection" and „6.
Charging, jump starting".
2. Controls
1 Indicator lamp „on"
This lamp goes out when the thermostatic
switch is tripped.
2 Red indicator lamp (only on SL 2470 C)
(polarity?, contact?)
This lamps lights up when the unit is swit-
ched on and if:
- the battery is not connected
- there is poor contact at the battery terminals
- the battery is almost exhausted (total volta-
ge below 0.7 V)
- the battery is connected with incorrect
polarity
The charging current is not switched
through to the battery in all these cases.
3 Ammeter
This can be used to monitor charging current.
4 Combined voltage and charging
current selector switch
This switch sets the charging voltage to the
nominal voltage of the battery and is used to
preselect the nominal charging current by
means of the appropriate vehicle symbols.
= Battery capacity up to 70 Ah
= Battery capacity over 70 Ah
5 Time switch
This time switch is used to increase the
charging current for up to 2 hours for
boost charging. When the preselected
boost charging time elapses, the unit is
automatically switched to normal charging.
6-7Circuit-breakers
Combined protection against overload
and incorrect polarity
(Further protection is provided by one
thermostatic switch each in the transfor-
mer and at the rectifier). These switch off
automatically in the event of overload and
switch on again when the overload has
been eliminated.
8 Charging cables
Red terminal
Blue terminal
9 Pushbutton (only in SL 2470 C)
This is provided on the remote control
cable to switch on the jump starting cur
rent.
10 Mains cable with grounding plug
3. Use
6,12 and 24 V standard and maintenance-
free car starter batteries with a capacity of
12-180 Ah can be charged with the rapid
charger.
