Fitting the basic carrier
Note
The left side of the carrier profi le is marked on the underside with a sticker for
front and rear.
Ensure when fi tting the basic carrier that the sticker is on the left side of the
vehicle.

Unlock and remove all four cover caps.
2.
Open each tensioning clamp -2- using the torque key until slight resistance
is felt. Do not turn further!

Position fi tting aide -1- on the rubber seal and within the markings -3- and
slide it under the front securing point -2- as shown.
2.
Clean roof thoroughly in area of the contact surfaces.

Position front basic carrier in installation position and press tensioning
clamp -1- to stop on retainer -2-.
Do not move the tensioning clamps -1-, the retainer must be positioned in
opening (enlargement).

Remove the fi tting aide and repeat the process on the other side.
The fi tting of the rear basic carrier is basically similar.

Align each basic carrier so that the support foot -3- lies evenly on the
edge of the roof (enlargement, arrow). The fi nal position is achieved when
tensioning the carrier.
2.
Tighten each clamping screw lightly using torque key -2-.
3.
Alternately tighten the clamping screws on the left and right sides in two
stages to 4 Nm using the torque key -2-. Achievement of the correct
tightening torque is indicated by a knacking sound - do not tighten further!
4.
Fit and close each cover cap.
Note
Never exceed the total load of 65 kg and never tighten the clamping screw to
more than 4 Nm.
Clamping screws tightened to above the specifi ed torque may damage the
vehicle. Damages arising from this are not covered by the guarantee/warranty.
The support foot must not project over the edge of the roof.
WARNING
Installing or using the roof carrier system improperly can cause the
roof carrier bars and anything on them to fall off the vehicle causing
an accident and/or serious injury.
Always make sure that all bolts and fasteners are properly
installed and properly tightened before every journey and at each
break on a longer journey. Check the system and retighten the
screws/bolts as necessary.
All connections must be checked at shorter intervals when
travelling over poor road surfaces or hilly or mountainous terrain,
for example, at breaks when travelling on longer journeys.
Always properly install special fittings for bicycles, skis,
surfboards etc.
Never use damaged, inadequately strong or unsuitable belts/ropes
or other securing devices to secure objects on the roof carrier
bars.
Refer to page 27 when installing attachments and/or removing the roof carrier
system.
