Product Description
The RPI-A1-8PoE is a DIN-rail mountable single-phase-input power supply with built-in PoE+ injector
functionality. It provides a stabilized and galvanically separated SELV/PELV output voltage. It provides
8x RJ45 Ethernet ports for data input and 8xRJ45 Ethernet ports with PoE+ according to standard
IEEE802.3at.
Intended Use
This device is designed for installation in an enclosure and is intended for general use such as in
industrial control, office, communication, and instrumentation equipment. Do not use this device in
equipment, where malfunction may cause severe personal injury or threaten human life.
Installation Notes
- This device does not contain serviceable parts. The tripping of an internal fuse is caused by an
internal defect. If damage or malfunction should occur during installation or operation, immediately
turn power off and send the device to the factory for inspection
- This device must be used with shielded twisted pair Ethernet cables specified for usage in
IEEE802.3at.
- Install device in an enclosure providing protection against electrical, mechanical and fire hazards.
- Install the device onto a DIN-rail according to EN 60715 with the input terminals on the bottom of
the device. For other orientations see de-rating requirements in the datasheet.
- Make sure that the wiring is correct by following all local and national codes. Use appropriate
copper cables that are designed for a minimum operating temperature of 60°C for ambient
temperatures up to +45°C, 75°C for ambient temperatures up to +60°C and 90°C for ambient
temperatures up to +70°C. Ensure that all strands of a stranded wire enter the terminal connection.
- For use in a controlled environment. Do not use the device in pollution degree 3 areas without
additional protection or in applications where a degree of protection better than IP20 is required.
- The device is suitable to be supplied from TN-, TT- and IT mains networks. The voltage between
the L or N terminal and the PE terminal must not exceed 300Vac continuously acc. to IEC 62477-1.
- The device is designed for overvoltage category III acc. to IEC 62477-1 and II acc. to IEC 60950-1.
- The input can also be powered from batteries or similar DC sources. The voltage between the (+)
or (-) terminal and the PE terminal must not exceed 375Vdc continuously acc. to IEC 62477-1.
- The device is designed as "Class of Protection I" equipment according to IEC 61140. A PE
(Protective Earth) connection is required.
- The output is electronically protected against no-load, overload and short circuit and can supply any
kind of loads according to IEEE802.3at..
- Do not apply return voltages from the load to the output higher than 56V.
- The device is designed for convection cooling and does not require an external fan. Do not obstruct
airflow and do not cover ventilation grid (e.g. cable conduits) by more than 15%!
- The device is designed for altitudes up to 6000m. See details in the product datasheet for additional
requirements above 2000m.
- Keep the following minimum installation clearances when the device is permanently loaded with
more than 50% of the nominal current: 40mm on top, 20mm on the bottom, 5mm left and right side.
Increase the 5mm to 15mm in case the adjacent device is a heat source.
- The device is designed, tested and approved for branch circuits up to 32A (IEC) and 30A (UL)
without additional protection device. If an external fuse is utilized, do not use circuit breakers
smaller than 6A B- or C-Characteristic to avoid a nuisance tripping of the circuit breaker.
- The maximum surrounding air temperature is +70°C / +158°F. The operational temperature is the
same as the ambient or surrounding air temperature and is defined as the air temperature 2cm
below the device.

Functional Description
- The output voltage can be adjusted. Open the flap on the front to set the output voltage with a small flat-
blade screwdriver. The factory setting is 48.0V.
- The green DC-OK LED on the front of the device reports a functional unit and is synchronized with the
DC-OK relay contact. The LED is on when the output voltage is >90% of the adjusted output voltage.
- The DC-OK relay contact monitors the output voltage on the output terminals of a running device. The
contact opens as soon as the output voltage dips more than 10% below the adjusted output voltage.
- The device is equipped with an over-temperature protection. In case of a high temperature, the
output shut-down and starts automatically again after cooling off.
- In case of an internal defect, a redundant circuit limits the maximum output voltage to 60Vdc. The
output shuts down and automatically attempts to restart.
- The device detects connected PoE loads automatically and will not power connected non-PoE
devices according to IEEE802.3at.
