The F-number and synthetic focal length varies, in fact, with the combination of the fieldscope

and eyepiece but the F-number and displayed focal length of the camera is fixed to 6.3 and 540
mm (0.1 in), respectively.
Focus:
•
Only manual focus is available with the lens focus ring of the fieldscope used. Autofocus is not
available.
•
If the object is dark, it will be difficult to make focus adjustments. Make LCD setting changes for
Nikon 1 if necessary.
Shutter release:
•
Use a self-timer or remote control to shoot objects in order to reduce the vibration caused by
the shutter release.
•
Use a sturdy tripod to minimize shaking when taking photos.
Others:
•
Smart Photo Selector Mode is not available.
•
Motion Snapshot Mode is not available.
•
Auto Photo Mode is not available. (J2 only)

Only P, S, A, and M scene settings are available in Creative Mode. (J2 only)

Shooting precautions
•
Viginetting or shadows may result depending on relevant physical conditions, such as the cam-
era model and the type of eyepiece to be attached. Viginetting or shadows may not be perfectly
eliminated.
•
At the time of shooting, make focus adjustments by turning the focus ring of the fieldscope
while seeing the object on the LCD monitor or viewfinder of the camera.
•
A shallow depth of field will result because of high-magnification shooting. Pay sufficient atten-
tion to focusing.
•
Use a self-timer or remote control to prevent vibration because of high-magnification shooting.
•
The shooting position may shift as a result of the operation of the camera. Check the position
before pressing the shutter release button.
•
Do not use the flash when shooting.
•
Noise in the form of lines may appear in pictures depending on the shooting condition.
Exif data
The focal length and F-number recorded on image data is fixed to 540 mm (21.3 in) and 6.3 respec-
tively.
