Valve C: 1-1/2 open (Screw C)
16
Flexion Resistance: Figure D
• Valve A - The „A" valve controls the resistance from 60° to the fully flexed
position and prevents excessive heel rise when the amputee is walking
faster. When properly adjusted, a bump is felt at 60° when manually flexing
the knee.
• Valve B - The „B" valve controls the resistance from fully extended to 60° (0-
60). It controls the rate of initial flexion and assists extension, particularly
when the amputee is walking slowly.
• Flexion resistance must always be greater than extension resistance. This
facilitates movement into full extension and the locked position.
Extension Resistance: Figure E
• Valve C - The „C" valve controls the extension resistance.
• Too much resistance on the extension valve (the „C" valve) will prohibit the
knee from moving into full extension and the locked position.
• It is important for the amputee to always feel a slight bump when the leg
reaches the fully extended position. The bump signals that the knee can be
loaded safely.
Clockwise turn closes valve - increases resistance
17
Counter-Clockwise turn opens valve - decreases resistance
18
CAUTION!
• Valve can be damaged by over tightening or flexing the knee with all the
valves closed.
• Screws A, B and C are the only adjustments.
• Tampering with, or removing any other screws associated with the hydraulic
unit will void warranty.
• This unit is not field serviceable. A loaner program is available for repairs
and warranty claims.
Extension Promoter: Figure F
Extension Promoter Adjustment Screw
19
Clockwise rotation decreases heel rise
20
The purpose of the Extension Promoter is to reduce excessive heel rise. The
Extension Promoter is set at minimum when shipped from Ossur.
• Flex the knee to expose the Extension Promoter adjustment screw.
• Using a flat head screw driver turn the Extension Promoter adjustment
screw clockwise to reduce heel rise.
