INTENDED USE
The BD BBL™ Crystal™ Panel Viewer is for use with the BD BBL Crystal ID Test Panels.
SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION
The BD BBL Crystal Panel Viewer is designed for use with BD BBL Crystal ID Systems. The Panel Viewer illuminates the
BBL Crystal ID System color reactions with either white light or longwave (365 nm) ultraviolet (UV) light depending upon the
position of the panel viewer.
PROCEDURES FOR USE
Set the Panel Viewer on a flat dry surface. Insert the plug of the power cord into a three-wire grounded receptacle providing:
Domestic (Model No. 245031) 115 volts, 60 Hz AC only; European (Model No. 245032) 230 volts, 50/60 Hz AC only; and
Japanese (Model No. 245033) 100 volts, 50/60 Hz. If a two-wire receptacle is encountered, it must be replaced with a
properly grounded three-wire receptacle in accordance with the U.S. National Electric Code. Do not remove the grounding
plug from the power plug of this unit. When the unit is not in use, the electrical cord may be removed from the unit for storage
purposes.
To turn the Panel Viewer on, press the switch located on the right side of the unit to the "I" position. The internal white
light will illuminate the lower panel and the ultraviolet light will illuminate the upper chamber. With the slider in the down
position, place an inoculated panel on the white light viewing ledge to allow recording of the data. For proper orientation,
the lettering across the top of the panel should read A to J and the lettering along the left side should read 4, 2, 1, from top
to bottom. Report forms and instructions on scoring the BD BBL Crystal ID System color reactions are included in each
BD BBL Crystal ID Systems kit.
To utilize the ultraviolet illumination, slide the panel up into the UV chamber. Viewing through the preformed viewport will
allow recording of the UV-induced fluorescence. The BD BBL Crystal Panel Viewer is equipped with a special contrast
control filter which blocks out UV light to prevent direct exposure form the longwave UV.
The angle adjustment bracket can be adjusted to raise or lower the angle of the viewer for comfortable viewing of panels. The
bracket, located on the back of the unit, can be adjusted by sliding the bracket to the appropriate angle and tightening the knob.
Indoor use, altitude up to 2000 m, temperature 5 to 40 ºC, maximum relative humidity of 80% to temperatures up to 31 ºC
linearly to 50% relative humidity at 40 ºC, mains supply voltage not to exceed ± 10 of the nominal voltage. Installation
Category II, Pollution degree 2.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Do not operate the unit when wet. Store unit in a clean, dry area at room temperature (23 to 29 ºC). The viewer is
painted with a scratch-resistant paint and can be cleaned with commercial cleaners and a damp cloth, WITH THE UNIT
UNPLUGGED. To avoid direct UV exposure do not operate the unit when the viewport and filter have been removed
for cleaning. Handle the filter glass carefully when cleaning. Power cord is the mains disconnect device.
Warnings and Precautions:
For in vitro Diagnostic Use.
Read instructions before attempting to operate this device.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLACEMENT OF TUBES
Turn the Panel Viewer off, disconnect the power cord from the wall receptacle and the unit as instructed in the warning label.
Remove back cover of the unit by removing the 11 attachment screws. Remove the defective UV or white light tube from the
retaining sockets and replace with a new tube. Caution: defective tube may be warm to touch. Reattach the back cover
using ALL of the screws.
