FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q.
I have low fence voltage and my energizer has not adapted to full Stored Energy?
A.
It is likely that your lead-out (wire or cable connecting your energizer to the heart of your fence system) is not
adequate for the size of your fence system and power of the energizer. We recommend you use a multi-wire
fence (e.g. 3 x 2.5mm wires) or at least one highly conductive aluminium wire (G9312) in the main lead-out
from the energizer to the centre of your fence system. In large networks we also recommend you use Super
Conductive Cable (G6272) in the lead-outs to your fence and Earth systems.
Q.
Sometimes my Remote Control does not switch the energizer ON or OFF?
A.
There could be several reasons for this. Check:
1.
You are getting a good earth connection with your Remote Control. Use damp ground or connect the
Remote earth stake to a larger earth, like earth wire or iron fence stake.
2.
The energizer earth is good.
3.
There is not a large short on the fence near where you are trying to operate the Remote Control. The
Remote is like a small energizer. The pulses will power through small shorts but have difficulty with large
shorts.
4.
The fence connections are good. The pulse from a large energizer will leap a poor fence connection but
the smaller Remote Control pulse will have difficulty. Fault find connections by beginning at the energizer
and progressively working towards where the Remote does not work. A Digital Volt Meter (G5030) will
assist by identifying a drop in voltage. Use Joint Clamps (G6030) to ensure good wire connections.
5.
The "ON/Standby" light is not flashing on the energizer. If it is, this means there is high electrical
interference on the fence causing the energizer to ignore the Remote Control signal. Refer to
"Understanding your SmartPower Remote Control" section page 9 to decrease the energizer's sensitivity.
Q.
Why does my energizer sometimes operate at a slower speed?
This is normal. As a safety feature, when the energizer is working hard at high temperatures it will slow down
A.
its pulse speed. Also, when the energizer is operating on battery it will switch to half speed (Battery Save Mode)
when the battery is low.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Your SmartPower Energizer not only has the capability to inform you of what is happening on the fence but also has
the ability to diagnose its own troubles. Below is a summary of what the alarms and displays mean.

FAQ / Troubelshooting

Solution
Check for shorts on the fence. Remove
excess vegetation from fence.
Check for shorts on the fence. Remove
excess vegetation from fence. Check for
break in fence circuit.
Check all connections. Add Earth
Stakes.
Check all connections. Add Earth
Stakes.
Use Remote to switch the energizer ON
again or reset the power supply.
Self corrects when interference
reduces. Reduce sensitivity via switches
(see illustration with "Remote Control
electrical interference" section on page
9).
Correctly connect Output and Earth
terminals.
Install and/or check all connections to
the reference earth stake (This reading
can occur if you have a near perfect
Earth. Confirm voltage on the Earth
Stakes is 0.0kV).
Turn energizer OFF for 30 seconds and
turn ON again. If the error reading
is still present, then record the error
number and contact your Gallagher
dealer.
