Assembly
Always wear protective gloves when working on
your chainsaw.
Using the spanner provided, remove the
side panel.
Fit the saw chain over the guide bar, making sure
that the chain is the right way round.
Fit the sliding nut and tensioning screw into the
slide way.
Put the bar and chain onto the saw, ensuring the
chain is around the sprocket wheel.
Adjust the tensioning screw until the peg fits into
the hole in the bar.
Replace the side panel, tightening the nut
finger tight.
Adjust the tension on the chain with the tension
screw. The tension is correct when the chain can
be pulled 3mm away from the chain bar when
using finger and thumb.
Tighten the side panel nut with the spanner.
Do not overtighten as this will reduce the life of
the chain and guide bar.
Oiling
Fill the reservoir via the filler cap with the
recommended chain oil. You see the oil level in the
indicator slot. Periodically switch off and check the
oil in the indicator; if it is less than a quarter full,
disconnect the saw from the mains and refill with the
correct oil.
Chain brake
Your chainsaw is fitted with a chainbrake which
will stop the chainsaw immediately if kickback
should occur.
To set the machine:
Ensure that your chainsaw is disconnected from
the mains supply.
Push the reset button until it is down completely.
Pull the chainbrake bar towards you until it clicks
into place.
Your chainbrake is now ready for use.
Note: The chainsaw will not operate correctly unless
the reset button has been properly engaged
How the chainbrake works
In the event of kickback, the left hand comes into
contact with the bar of the chainbrake and this will
stop the chainsaw immediately.
To reset after the operation of the chainbrake
Follow the instructions for setting the chainbrake.

Preparing for use
Chain oiling
You must do this whenever you use a new chain
for the first time. Take the new chain out of its
plastic bag and soak it in chain oil for at least an
hour before using it. Use Black & Decker chain oil
(cat. nos. A6022, A6055).
We recommend that you use only one brand of oil
during the lifetime of the chainsaw because mixtures
of different oils could lead to the oil becoming
degraded, which drastically shortens the lifetime of
the saw.
Never use waste oil, thick oil or very thin sewing
machine oil. These may damage your machine.
To switch on
Press the lock-off switch whilst pressing the trigger to
start your chainsaw. Use your chainsaw to cut wood
only. Do not force the saw; it will do a better and
safer job at the speed for which it is designed.
Excessive force will stretch the chain.
If the saw chain or bar becomes jammed:
Switch off.
Disconnect from the mains supply.
Open the cut with wedges to relieve the strain on
the guide bar. Do not try to wrench the saw free.
Start a fresh cut.
Felling (Fig. C)
C
Refer to the illustrations in Fig. C.
1. Pre-plan a safe exit from falling tree
or branches.
2. Cut one third of the diameter of the tree.
Then cut down from above to make a
notch of about 45˚. This way you will
avoid pinching the saw.
3. Make a single felling cut from the other
side but stop before you cut through to
the notch.
4. Drive a wedge or wedges into the felling
cut to open it and drop the tree.
Logging
How you should cut depends on how the log is
supported. Use a saw horse whenever possible.
Supported along its whole length
Make a downward cut, but avoid cutting the earth as
this will blunt your saw quickly.
Supported at both ends
First cut one third down, to avoid splintering -
second, cut to meet the first cut.
