Safety Information and Maintenance
(Part of the Operating Instructions for Safety System CES-A.../CES-AZ/CES-FD)
Scope
This safety information is part of the operating in‑
structions for the safety systems CES‑A..., CES‑AZ
and CES‑FD.
Correct use
Evaluation units of the series CES‑A..., CES‑AZ and
CES‑FD are used to evaluate safety‑related signals
of EUCHNER read heads. Depending on the read
heads used, the system can form an interlocking
device with or without guard locking (type 4).
The system meets the requirements according to
EN IEC 60947‑5‑3.
Devices with unicode evaluation possess a high
coding level, devices with multicode evaluation
possess a low coding level. The system consists of
evaluation unit, read head and actuator.
The following applies in combination with a
CES or CEM read head:
In combination with a movable safety guard and the
machine control, this system prevents dangerous
machine functions from occurring while the safety
guard is open. A stop command is triggered if
the safety guard is opened during the dangerous
machine function.
This means:
Starting commands that cause a dangerous ma‑
f
chine function must become active only when the
safety guard is closed.
Opening the safety guard triggers a stop com‑
f
mand.
Closing a safety guard must not cause automatic
f
starting of a dangerous machine function. A sep‑
arate start command must be issued. For excep‑
tions, refer to EN 12100 or relevant C‑standards.
The following applies in case of a CES-AZ
evaluation unit in combination with a CET
read head:
Together with a movable safety guard and the
machine control, this system prevents the safety
guard from being opened while a dangerous machine
function is being performed.
This means:
Starting commands that cause a dangerous ma‑
f
chine function must become active only when the
safety guard is closed and locked.
The guard locking device must not be unlocked
f
until the dangerous machine function has ended.
Closing and locking a safety guard must not cause
f
automatic starting of a dangerous machine func‑
tion. A separate start command must be issued.
For exceptions, refer to EN 12100 or relevant
C‑standards.
Before use, a risk assessment must be performed
on the machine, e.g. according to the following
standards:
EN ISO 13849‑1, Safety of machinery – Safety‑re‑
f
lated parts of control systems – Part 1: General
principles for design
EN ISO 12100, Safety of machinery – General
f
principles for design – Risk assessment and risk
reduction
IEC 62061, Safety of machinery – Functional
f
safety of safety‑related electrical, electronic and
programmable electronic control systems
Correct use includes observing the relevant require‑
ments for installation and operation, e.g. according
to the following standards:
EN ISO 13849‑1, Safety of machinery – Safety‑re‑
f
lated parts of control systems – Part 1: General
principles for design
EN ISO 14119, Safety of machinery – Interlocking
f
devices associated with guards – Principles for
design and selection
EN 60204‑1, Safety of machinery – Electrical
f
equipment of machines – Part 1: General re‑
quirements
The safety system must be operated only in conjunc‑
tion with the EUCHNER read heads and actuators
intended for this purpose and the related connection
components from EUCHNER. On the use of differ‑
ent actuators or other connection components,
EUCHNER provides no warranty for safe function.
Important:
Correct use requires observing the permissible
f
operating parameters (see Technical data).
The user is responsible for the proper integration
f
of the device into a safe overall system. For this
purpose, the overall system must be validated,
e.g. in accordance with EN ISO 13849‑2.
Exclusion of liability and warranty
In case of failure to comply with the conditions for
correct use stated above, or if the safety instruc‑
tions are not followed, or if any servicing is not
performed as required, liability will be excluded and
the warranty void.
General safety instructions
Safety switches fulfill personal protection functions.
Incorrect installation or tampering can lead to fatal
injuries to personnel.
Check the safe function of the safety guard par‑
ticularly
after any setup work
f
after the replacement of a system component
f
after an extended period without use
f
after every fault
f
Independent of these checks, the safe function of the
safety guard should be checked at suitable intervals
as part of the maintenance schedule.
WARNING
Danger to life due to improper installation or due
to bypassing (tampering). Safety components
perform a personal protection function.
Safety components must not be bypassed,
f
turned away, removed or otherwise rendered
ineffective. On this topic pay attention in partic‑
ular to the measures for reducing the possibility
of bypassing according to EN ISO 14119:2013,
section 7.
The switching operation must be triggered only
f
by actuators designated for this purpose.
Prevent bypassing by means of replacement
f
actuators (only for multicode evaluation). For this
purpose, restrict access to actuators and to keys
for releases, for example.
Mounting, electrical connection and setup only
f
by authorized personnel possessing the following
knowledge:
‑ specialist knowledge in handling safety com‑
ponents
‑ knowledge about the applicable EMC regu‑
lations
‑ knowledge about the applicable regulations on
occupational safety and accident prevention.
Important!
Prior to use, read the operating instructions and
keep these in a safe place. Ensure the operating
instructions are always available during mounting,
setup and servicing. EUCHNER cannot provide any
warranty in relation to the readability of the CD for
the storage period required.
For this reason you should archive a printed copy
of the operating instructions. You can download
the operating instructions from www.euchner.de.

Operating instructions on CD/DVD
Each device is supplied with operating instructions
on CD/DVD which contain detailed information on
the overall system. The following system require‑
ments must be met to be able to display or print
the document:
PC with PDF reader installed
f
CD/DVD drive
f
Opening and printing the documents
Important: The autoplay function for the drive must
be enabled (see operating system help), and you
will need an up‑to‑date PDF reader.
1. Insert CD/DVD
Selection table is opened in the browser
¨
¨
2. Click the related document for your system
The document is opened and can be printed.

Mounting, setup and
troubleshooting
For detailed instructions on mounting, setup and
troubleshooting, please refer to the operating
instructions on the CD/DVD.
NOTICE
Risk of damage to equipment and malfunctions as
a result of incorrect installation.
Safety switches and actuators must not be used
f
as an end stop.
Observe EN ISO 14119:2013, sections 5.2 and
f
5.3, for information about fastening the safety
switch and the actuator.
Electrical connection
For detailed information on the electrical connec‑
tion, please refer to the operating instructions on
the CD/DVD.
WARNING
In case of an error, loss of the safety function
through incorrect connection.
The following applies in case of the CES‑A‑...
f
and CES‑AZ‑.BS‑...: To ensure safety, both safety
outputs must always be evaluated.
The monitoring outputs must not be used as
f
safety outputs.
Lay the connection cables with protection to
f
prevent the risk of short circuits.
Inspection and service
WARNING
Loss of the safety function because of damage
to the system.
In case of damage, the affected module must be
replaced completely. Only accessories or spare
parts that can be ordered from EUCHNER may
be replaced.
Regular inspection of the following is necessary to
ensure trouble‑free long‑term operation:
Check the switching function
f
Check the secure fastening of the devices and
f
the connections
Check for soiling
f
Check the safe function of the safety guard par‑
ticularly
after any setup work
f
after the replacement of a system component
f
after an extended period without use
f
after every fault
f
after any change to the DIP switch setting
f
No servicing is required; repairs to the device are
only allowed to be made by the manufacturer.
