USER INSTRUCTIONS
Please read these instructions in conjunction with all other
appropriate User Instructions for the complete respirator system.
UNPACKING
Your 3M™ Aircare ACU-01/ACU-02 Unit should contain:
a) Wall/Floor Mounted Air Filtration Unit
b) 1/2" to 3/8" reducer
c) 3/8" male/male connectors (2)

FOREWORD
Failure to follow all instructions on the use of this product and/or failure to wear the respirator system during all
times of exposure may adversely affect the wearer's health, may lead to severe illness or permanent disability and
may render any warranty null and void.
If you have any doubts about the suitability of the product to your job situation, it is recommended that you consult an
occupational hygienist, or call 3M OH&ES Technical Affairs at your local 3M office. See back of this booklet for
addresses and telephone numbers.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Aircare ACU-01/ACU-02 Unit provides high quality air from an external source of compressed air by removing
water droplets, solid particles and odours. The unit comprises three stages. Stage 1 removes water droplets and solid
particles of 5 microns and above. Stage 2 comprises a coalescing filter which removes particles of 0.01 microns and
above and water and oil aerosols of 0.01 mg/m
vapours and odours at 0.003 parts per million and above.
APPROVALS
This product is supplied by 3M United Kingdom PLC for use with airfed devices where the supply pressure and flow
rates are met by the filtration unit. The quality of the filtered air meets the requirements of the International Standard
ISO 8573-1 Class 1-1. The classes refer to the size and maximum number of particles per m
concentration of oil. The '-' refers to the water vapour class not being specified.
LIMITATIONS OF USE
Use this Aircare Unit strictly in accordance with all instructions contained in this booklet.
Always ensure that:
The system is only used by trained personnel.
The source of the air supply is known.
The purity of the air supply is known.
The air supply is of breathable quality to EN 12021
Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 19,5% oxygen (3M definition. Individual countries may apply their own
limits on oxygen deficiency. Please seek advice if in doubt).
Do not use in environments that are immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
Do not use to filter concentrations of toxic dusts and gases.
Do not use with asphyxiates.
Do not use outside ambient temperature range of -10°C to +50°C. If used at higher temperatures, (+50°C to 80 °C) see
Maintenance section for implications.
Do not exceed maximum working pressure of 10 bar.
In case of intended use in explosive atmospheres, (Call 3M OH & ES technical affairs at your local office).
EQUIPMENT MARKING
Each filter stage is marked with the appropriate number.
The direction of air flow is marked with an arrow.
P < 10 bar denotes maximum working pressure.
-10°C < t < 50°C denotes operating temperature range.
