GUIDE BAR MAINTENANCE
•
The chain saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
•
The chain saw has to be forced through the cut.
•
There is an inadequate supply of oil to the guide bar
and chain.
Cleaning the guide bar rails
The rails that hold the chain in place should be cleaned if
the guide bar or chain appear to be dirty.
The rails should also be cleaned every time the chain is
removed.
1. Remove the sprocket cover, guide bar and chain.
2. Use a wire brush, screwdriver or similar tool to clear
the residue from the inner groove of the guide bar.
3. Clean the oil passages thoroughly.

MAINTENANCE
edges and sides.
A = Worn Groove
B = Correct Groove
Replace the guide bar when the groove is worn, the guide
bar is bent or cracked, or when excess heating or burring
of the rails occurs. Only use a replacement guide bar that
matches the original guide bar.
Turning the guide bar
The guide bar is subjected to especially severe wear and
tear at the nose and the bottom. To avoid one-sided wear
and tear, turn the guide bar over every time when you
sharpen the chain.
CHAIN MAINTENANCE
•
•
Keep the chain sharp. A properly sharpened chain will cut
faster and more safely. A dull chain will cause sprocket,
guide bar, and motor wear.
If you must force the chain into the wood and cutting
creates only sawdust with few large chips, the chain is
dull.
or obtain chain sharpening equipment to enable you
to sharpen the chain yourself. Follow the operating
instructions provided with the sharpening equipment.
Replace the chain when the cutters are too worn to
sharpen. Only use a replacement chain that matches the
original chain.
