General Description
Oxygen saturation (SpO ) is a percentage

of oxygen contained in the blood. 'S'
indicates saturation, 'p' indicates the
pulse and O is the symbol for oxygen.

Blood cells contain a chemical called
hemoglobin (Hb). When hemoglobin is
combined with oxygen it forms a second
chemical called oxyhemoglobin (HbO ).
