C. Electrical Connections
The model AV1 comes assembled from the factory with two color-coded leads for wiring to
a junction box. If desired, the factory leads can be removed and the supply connections can
be directly made to the terminal block located in the lower housing as described below.
To avoid electrical shock hazards, do not connect to supply circuit when power is applied.
If the light has not been disassembled previously for mounting, perform the following steps:
1. Remove the three no. 8 screws and remove the upper housing.
2. Remove the factory field wiring leads from the terminal block.
3. Route supply wires (12 AWG to 16 AWG) into the housing through the conduit entry.
4. Strip a maximum of .25" (6.4 mm) of wire insulation from the ends of the power
leads. Connect phase/negative wire to the (-) terminal and neutral/positive wire to the
(+) terminal. Insert the stripped ends of the wire into the connector as far as they can
travel and tighten the clamping screw (max. tightening torque = 4.5 in-lb {.5 N-m}).
5. Re-assemble the light and test for proper operation.
II. MAINTENANCE
Listed below are some important safety instructions and precautions you should follow:
Read and understand all instructions before operating this system.
Any maintenance to the light system must be done with the power turned off.
Any maintenance to the light system must be performed by a trained electrician in accordance
with NEC/CEC Guidelines and local codes.
Never alter the unit in any manner. Safety may be endangered if additional openings or other
alterations are made to units.
The nameplate, which contains cautionary or other information of importance to maintenance
personnel, should not be obscured.
After performing any maintenance, test the light system to ensure that it is operating properly.
A. Lamp Replacement
To avoid electrical shock hazards, do not replace lamp when power is applied.
1. Remove the lens by loosening the locking screw and turning the lens one-quarter turn
counterclockwise.
2. Remove the old lamp by depressing the lamp and turning counter-clockwise.
3. Replace lamp with Federal Signal part number K149123A (120 VAC) or
K8107210A (24 VDC).
4. Attach lens to housing by aligning pins on housing with detents on lens and turning the
lens one-quarter turn clockwise while applying a slight downward pressure.
5. Tighten locking screw on lens.
6. Test light for proper operation.
