SETUP

Two Cassette sizes (0.72 in and 0.36 in thick)
(see Figure 3) accommodate a broad range
of tubing link sizes, as noted in the "Cassette Loading
Capacity" charts (see Appendix A).
FIGURE 3 SMALL AND LARGE CASSETTES

(1) Select Cassettes

NOTE: These Pump Heads are designed to work with the Model 72-560-000 and 72-560-100 Cassettes. Do not use
Model 72-557-000 or 72-557-100 Cassettes, which are designed for different Pump Heads.
Depending on which Pump Head is used, up to six large or twelve small tubing Cassettes can be teamed up with the
Pump Head. But there is a limit, depending upon the pump load. For full tubing flow rates at 0 psig, Appendix A shows
Cassette capacities for all tubing sizes. Cassette sizes can be intermixed as long as the total load doesn't exceed the
drive capability.
The small Cassette is designed for Microbore tubing links used with the eight roller Pump Head.
The large Cassette is designed for size 13 through 18 MANOSTAT precision tubing links with the six roller Pump
Head. Do not use Microbore tubing in the large Cassette.
Use only MANOSTAT precision tubing links with CARTER CASSETTE pumps
to ensure optimum performance. Use of other tubing may void applicable warranties.

(2) Load Cassettes

The Cassettes occlusion surfaces are positioned asymmetrically around the pump roller assembly (see Figure 3),
so orientation on the Pump Head may be important for certain applications.
To achieve parallel, sychonized pulsations and fluid "pillows" thorugh all channels, orient Cassettes in the same
direction.
To achieve nearly pulseless flow, install Cassettes in alternate directions and connect equal lengths of tubing from the
discharge side of two alternate Cassettes together through a Y connector as shown (see Figure 4). The asymmetric
design of the Cassettes provides overlapping pulses through the two tubings, which act to almost completely cancel
pulsation in the combined flow channel. The degree of asymmetry of the small and large Cassettes is different, so the
small Cassette provides least pulsation when used with the eight roller Pump Heads, and the large Cassette provides
least pulsation when used with the six roller Pump Heads.
NOTE: The joined flow rate will be greater than the single channel flow rate for any given tubing size and pump speed.
WARNING:
Turn drive off before removing or installing Cassettes. Safety guards are provided to minimize
risk of fingers getting caught between the roller mechanism and the base of the module.
However, be safe—keep your fingers away from these areas.
CAUTION:
Large Cassette 72-560-100 should not be used with Microbore tubing links—may result in
premature tubing failure .
