General Troubleshooting Guide
Symptom
Possible Cause(s)
Tool runs slowly,
1. Grit or gum in tool
will not operate or
has low power
2. No oil in tool
3. Low air pressure
4. Air hose leaks
5. Pressure drops
6. Speed adjustment
set too low
7. Worn or broken
rotor vanes
8. Excessive wear of
internal parts
Moisture blowing
1. Water in tank
out of tool
2. Water in the air
lines/hoses

Corrective Action
1. Flush tool with Campbell Hausfeld air tool oil,
gum solvent, or an equal mixture of SAE 10
motor oil and kerosene. If Campbell Hausfeld
oil is not used, lubricate tool after cleaning
2. Lubricate tool according to lubrication
instructions in pre-operation section
3. a. Push speed adjustment lever on tool to
maximum setting (If applicable)
b. Adjust compressor regulator to tool
maximum while tool is running free
4. Tighten and seal hose fittings if leaks are
found
5 a. Be sure air hose is properly sized. Long
hoses or tools using large volumes of air
may require a 1/2 inch I.D. hose or larger
depending on total hose length
b. Do not use multiple number of hoses
connected with quick connect fittings.
Additional pressure drop and reduced
tool power is caused. Connect hoses
directly together
6. Push speed adjustment to higher setting
7. Replace vanes
8. Inspect and replace as necessary
1. Drain tank. (See air compressor manual). Oil
tool and run until no water is evident. Oil tool
again and run 1-2 seconds
2 a. Install a water separator/filter (PA2100
or PA2110). NOTE: Separators work
properly only when airstream is cool.
Locate separator/filter as far as possible
from compressor
b. Install an air dryer (PA2085)
c. Oil tool immediately anytime water enters
tool
